The way it’s worded is dumb as poo poo clickbait tho. He’s way too old to actually be Batman.

Pattinson’s Batman and whatever this new thing with Keaton is will be running concurrently.

DC has somehow managed to make their franchises even messier.

I think it’s great that DC/Warner Bros doesn’t feel slave to continuity and uniformity and universe-building at the expense of being able to make unique, interesting, standalone movies. It would be nice if one or two of them actually turned out to be good, though.

There’s really no need to de-canonize it, they can just never return to that time period again. It’s not like they can get a do-over with the original OT cast (or their ghastly digital likenesses)

When discussion of a movie centers around the fact that the plot makes no sense, or that it's thematically incoherent, it's usually a good indicator that the movie has failed to divert its audience as designed. The movie's biggest sin isn't that there are too many characters, or that all the wish stuff is convoluted, or that Wonder Woman and her boyfriend kind of raped a guy, the movie's biggest sin is that its boring and leaves the audience to ponder the aforementioned issues. Infinity War/Endgame are also messy and too long, but they were also generally propulsive enough that people largely were able to suspend disbelief and come along for the ride.

It’s effected the discourse, but I don’t think it’s had a big impact on the final consensus of “good/bad.” Like, I don’t know if I’ve ever walked away from a movie thinking “if this plot point had been better explained, or if this plot hole and been sewn up, then this bad movie would’ve been good.”

There’s a scene after the reality of the movie breaks where Naomi Watts is alone in her kitchen then she turns around with a deranged look and the camera floats over the back of the sofa and Laura Harring is laying there naked and there’s a guitar sting. It’s the greatest scene in film history.

Its not that complex, she's in a fantasy world and occasionally stuff from the real world intrudes. The fantasy world is becoming more detailed and realistic the longer she stays in it. Wandavision is demanding just a little bit of thought and interpretation from the audience and these slack jawed morons who have never seen a movie for adults think that makes it the most complex and thoughtful piece of art of the decade.

I think the Lynch comparisons come not so much from any perceived plot complexity, I think it's more the "wholesome Americana with a dark undercurrent" thing. It's a trite observation, but I don't think it's quite on the level of the "you have to have a high IQ to appreciate Rick and Morty" post.

Blood Simple and Raising Arizona are an interesting first two movies for the Coens, where Blood Simple is probably their driest and most humorless movie, while Raising Arizona is the loudest and zaniest (there’s a lot of visible Sam Raimi influence in the latter). It basically took them two movies to calibrate their tone.

I still like Blood Simple a lot, though.
