The MSJ posted:

Season 5 had them being frozen for several decades and waking up in a future where Earth was destroyed and humans live as refugees in a Kree space station. Midseason they timetraveled back to the present to prevent the disaster and the last episode took place after they succeeded but Thanos was starting to attack Earth as seen in Infinity War. Season 6 takes place a year later, but the snap at the end of Infinity War never took place. The practical reason is that the showrunners were not told beforehand the premise of End Game so they wrote a one year timeskip into the start of Season 6 just in case not knowing that it was inadequate. They pretty much gave up trying to catch up with the movies at that point and kinda sorta said that the show is now an alternate universe.
I mean what happened to evoke such a reaction:

The best thing about Beyond was depicting Archer-era ships as being absolute tanks, seeing as all they had for defense back in their day was polarized hull plating, as compared to the TOS-era and later ships being made out of styrofoam and tissue paper in comparison, due to their reliance upon shields and "structural integrity fields" and whatnot.

They crash that ship through a mountain with barely a scratch.

Ghost Rider 2 is the very definition of a movie that is less than the sum of its parts, which is too bad, becomes some of those parts are pretty awesome:

- Ghost Riding the largest land vehicle on earth (can he ghost ride ships and planes?)
- Nick Cage being even more insane than the first
- Idris Elba being charming as hell
- Eastern European Oligarch Satan
- Fantastic effects for half the budget of the first film

Pretty big difference in perception between a standard remake that is rewritten to take place in America like The Departed and a remake that still takes place in Japan for some reason instead of moving it to NEO MANHATTAN, PROTECTORATE OF NEO YORK, PART OF THE RUSSO-AMERICAN ALLIANCE of 2036 or something.

Like, the whole idea is still misguided (as they themselves seem to have realized, given that they didn’t put Tom Hanks in blackface), but the existence of dubbing shows us that nobody actually cares if a white actor voices an Asian character. Billy Bob Thornton’s in Princess Mononoke. Who gives a gently caress?
Disney specifically cast only Asian American actors in their Mulan cartoon and loudly proclaimed this fact. So they do care and do believe people care in certain cases, they just didn't think that anyone cared about Princess Mononoke.

SuperMechagodzilla posted:

Well right; but that's casting for the original roles and not dubbing.

If you get into the particulars of why dubbing is permissable, it's pretty clear that dubbing is perceived as a form of translation. The dub's voice actor is collaborating with the translators who are helping us to understand the original (in this case, Japanese) performance or script or whatever.

So Disney can - and will - cast a white actor as a Japanese person, and suffer no complaints, as long as they implicitly or explicitly state that this actor is only a medium for the original Japanese spirit that simply resides somewhere else.

But, of course, this symbolic preservation has nothing to do with fighting employment discrimination. It's another example of where the discourse gets very arbitrary.
This is an interesting theory that does appear to hold up when you consider the dub casting of non-animated foreign films in general, there was indeed no real casting concern raised over who dubbed who back in the day, but even as far back as Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon the english dub (which really does try, as much as it falls short) was produced with a (mostly?) Asian cast and did indeed make note of it.

Also you must be accurate in your terminology, as far as animation is concerned, it's all dubbing, original language or not.
