You don't have give these performative "ugh I love this poo poo even though it's so trashy" takes.

What is good is subjective, and Quintessential Quintuplets by all objective metrics of popularity, both with the anime and manga, was wildely successful. Hateing things for being popular or following standard tropes or being drama filled romcoms is outdated. You should just embrace what you enjoy with sincerity. There's a lot of legitimately enjoyable parts to Quintessential Quintuplets that makes it worth reading/watching, and you shouldn't beat yourself up for enjoying those things in my opinion.

Eh if you're that far into it, might as well finish it out. Occasionally watching a bad show for perspective on what makes bad shows bad and good shows good can be a learning experience on its own.

Okay, my buddy and I just watched like 4, maybe 5 episodes of Wandering Witch Elaina, and holy HELL is she a terrible person. It ended up with us just losing our poo poo (very loudly) as more and more horrific things happen around her and she just basically says, "Well that's odd. Oh well," and just flies away.

Thing is, I read a bit of the manga a while back, that's why we picked it up. I remember some of the messed-up situations from the manga, but Elaina didn't come off nearly as badly there. Sure - maybe she didn't dwell on things and lament when bad things happened, but she did seem to care like, in the moment.

I guess my question is: Are we overreacting? Did the anime kinda shift her tone a bit, maybe make it seem like she's a trust fund kid on a gap year going around the world doing feel-good third-world tourism but not actually, y'know, helping?

Going by the various posts as it was airing, it seems like it's a bit of "it was always there" and "the anime adaptation exacerbated it due to trimming stories run time and her own internal thoughts"

Because another isekai protagonist would further cause problems all they get is two scrolls of feather fall, hold portal and suggestion.

I think Mushoku Tensei bothers me because I got called a rape apologist for liking goblin slayer on this forum, and now there's just a thread for MT except the sex pest in that is the main character.

Konosuba sort of has this a bit-not the killing each other part, but there are a couple other characters that got isekai'd into the world besides the MC Kazuma.

Also I'm sorry to hear about the goblin slayer thing, a lot of people took the exploitative opening episode as an excuse to smear the show as a lot of horrible things it really isn't, as well as fans or casual watchers of the show.

I did enjoy sign, and the pacing is almost certainly intentional due to the atmosphere the show is going for, but it really feels like you could have trimmed the fat and reduced it down to a single cour anime, which would have made it much less of a slog to watch through.

The song that played at the end of the last episode still makes me happy though:

As if the problem is a lack of education and not the industry being a loving meat grinder that burns everyone out at 25.

And that it severely underpays its staff. :cripes:

Though I will say that having an easier pathway towards a career in animation, if that is your dream, is indeed a good thing. It's just that this is a stop gap that doesn't solve most of the fundamental underlying issues.

A startling tidbit from that article:

quote:

Overall, the domestic industry produces around 300 titles annually. Roughly 200 animators are needed to create each title. Even generous estimates peg the total number of working animators in Japan at 5,000 to 6,000. The math is ominous.

how are they not making money from licensed merch and events?

Generally when they get a contract/agreement to work on an existing IP, the cash investment to actually produce those animations come from an executive committee of investors, and in exchange they essentially get all of the profits via merchandise. Residuals are fairly small or non-existent.

I don't wanna just barge in with something inane but I'm in the mood for a Haruhi rewatch after my Eva rewatch and I'm really stuck as to how I should watch it re: broadcast order vs chronological order with the existence of season 2.

I remember when season 1 was the only thing to exist, and I rewatched it both ways plenty and enjoyed the mystery in the broadcast order since it was paced and climaxed to work like that. With season 2 thrown into the mix, I could just marathon them after the season 1 rewatch, but then those episodes weren't necessarily intended to be watched that way.

On the one hand I want to massage my nostalgia and re-experience the original order without the distractions of the artstyle shift, but then season 2 becomes a weird also-ran; on the other it'd be cool to do a big chronological run since I'm not sure I ever actually did it (maybe once? not sure) and Someday in the Rain visually leads into Disappearance quite well.

If anyone has rewatched in either way recently, I'd appreciate some thoughts and any regrets.

Pretty much everyone I've seen talk about it nowadays still reccomends watching it in release order as opposed to chronological order, so I would probably reccomend the same for you.

I think a lot of it comes down to frustration with the dismissal of the entire medium, which has a wide array of styles, either due to false preconceptions by those people as to what all anime is like (wacky exaggerated body movements and antics with a lot of sexual fanservice), or due to the racist undertones of condemning said entire medium simply for the sake that it's labeled as such (because it was made in Japan).

It's poison.

People misconstrue the characters as being bad at cooking, but in actuality, they just don't like to cook, so when they're made to do so, they will intentionally sabotage it with purple poison to make others scared of their cooking, so that way other people around them will opt to do the cooking for them instead.
