He is going to be so good getting away from Pikiell's garbage offense.*

*Not me hating on Pikiell, he has the best defense in the country, but the worst offense. Basically, the anti-Fran McCaffery.

Well on that note, we saw a month of bombs away and the team looked amazing, and then it was back to Geo iso-ball trash can offense. I like him a lot off the court, but he's Pikiell's binky, and it's clear at this point that he's not a top level talent.

I would be so much happier if Johnson was returning and Baker was leaving. I don't hate him, but enough, poo poo.

Myles missed like one layup although it was a loving doozy. I don't agree with anything you said. We had a great offense the first month where coincidentally or not, Geo was out. He comes back, they get ice cold, and Pike panics and goes back to the poo poo from last year that didn't work, vs. the offense that had us playing like a top 10 team.

Running off Mathis too in the process. Again, he doesn't suck, but he made some pretty clear mistakes.

Rutgers lost out on Paulicap to West Virginia, and is still looking for a backup center.

They ended up passing on Josh Baker though when they landed Aundre Hyatt from LSU. I'm feeling okay if they just can get a solid backup C who has a pulse. It will be difficult to get anyone better than that with no chance at starting.

I was over Cockburn going pro, but having him come back to college and play somewhere else is the ultimate nut punch. I don't know what the gently caress is going on here. We haven't even hired our third assistant coach after they all left this off season. What a clusterfuck.

Imagine if you were never really in the mix for big recruits, but half of the ones you developed left for UCLA and Oregon anyway.

Harper Jr's coming back too yeah? Rutgers is gonna be pretty drat good next year.

They're a fringe NCAA team, ranked #57 right now in the Bart Torvik projections, mainly because they lost Myles Johnson who had the fifth best defensive rating of any major conference player in the country last year. Right now Rutgers is projected ninth in the Big Ten, mainly because the top of the conference is so loaded

Basically, if center Cliff Omoruyi and wing Jaden Jones are good contributors, they're a NCAA team, if not, they aren't. They lost Johnson, Jacob Young (who had a great season), and Montez Mathis (a solid 3 and D wing who lost playing time to a defensive specialist.)

There's a bunch of freshmen who didn't play much or redshirted like Jones and Omoruyi, Aundrae Hyatt comes in from LSU to replace Mathis, and Paul Mulcahy is going to see a lot more minutes with Young gone. I guess maybe the other x-factor is Harper and Baker were hurt a lot of the year.

It's already factored in.

Agee is just going to be a backup and nothing more.

For what it's worth, the homer local press says Jaden Jones and Cliff Omoruyi look really good, and Rutgers is going to be better than expected this year.

Big Ten preseason poll

T1-Michigan, 373 (13)
T1-Purdue, 373 (12)
3-Illinois, 320 (3)
4-Ohio State, 316
5-Maryland, 269
6-Michigan State, 262
7-Indiana, 219
8-Rutgers, 208
9-Iowa, 150
10-Wisconsin, 149
11-Nebraska, 105
T12-Northwestern, 81
T12-Penn State, 81
14-Minnesota, 34

Here are the currents rankings in Torvik:

5 - Illinois
7 - Michigan
8 - Purdue
11- OSU
22 - MD
28 - MSU
30 - Indiana
49 - NW
54 - Wisc
59 - RU
61 - Iowa
66 - Neb
80 - PSU
146 - Minn

Computers like NW a bit as a sleeper. Don't really see that. The team I could see surprising is Nebraska based on Hoiberg's history.

The preseason reports from Rutgers have been very encouraging, but they did lose a lot, I'm not that frustrated if they project to the NIT right now. If Baker was affected by being hurt last year, and/or Cliff Omoruyi and Jaden Jones improve a lot, they could be in the mix, guess we'll see! It's probably a 7 bid league unless one of RU, Iowa, or Wisc is better than expected.

Kim Jong Il

Last year you were #77 by Torvik, and compared to other teams, didn't lose a ton. They had NW as a good defensive team last year. KenPom says they had awful luck, #328 out of #357.

The one bad call that went against Rutgers was when Loyer and McConnell fell down. It's 24 to 11 because Rutgers fouls a lot.

They fouled Derek Simpson when a Purdue player elbowed him in his face.

It's a documented fact that referees show gigantic favoritism towards home teams. Secondly, more established teams always get more calls. That's all that we're alleging. Because it's been a decade of this. Yes, we get unfair calls when we play teams like Nebraska.

Anyway, gently caress Big Ten refs, gently caress Zed Key and his illegal screens on every play, gently caress Ohio State for trying to ruin our NET by playing like poo poo against Minnesota. We won anyway!

I think we have a good sense of the Big Ten this year now:

Tier 1: Purdue
Tier 2: Rutgers
Tier 3: Ohio State, Iowa, Illinois, MSU - I get Zed Key's injury cost them the MN game, but how does OSU lose to Nebraska? They were really good, but they're hitting a wall now, and might be dropping further. I think the last three teams have figured poo poo out, and will make the tourney.
Tier 4: PSU, Indiana - PSU had a rough go of it tonight, but I think they're pretty good, and probably make it. Indiana is the most :psyduck: team in the universe. They're as talented as anyone, but are soft and have a giant mental block.

Those are probably the tourney teams.

Tier 5: Michigan, Maryland, NW, Wisconsin - all of these teams are NIT bound. Wiscy is really sinking fast.
Tier 6: Nebraska
Tier 7: Minnesota

It's insane how much OSU's season went in the tank, they were looking so good. Can we officially give back the win the refs stole from Rutgers now?
