Character Generation

D – Backstory
Arthan was a medic in the Legion, accompanying first-landing shock troops as they established a foothold in new theatres of war. Mostly he administered painkillers and uppers to wounded troops, a human syringe dispenser, but occasionally he had to save bystanders or opposing officers that the contract had a special provision for. On a mission to put down a farm labour strike with “unopposable force”, Arthan learned that their mission had a rider for the killing of a popular civilian family. He was kept at gunpoint from saving the life of a father and his child after a particularly brutal breaching of a house, and when he naively objected to his CO he found himself beginning down a path of exclusion, tormenting by his squad mates, “accidental” mission injuries, and eventually a termination of his contract. He was discharged abruptly after a mission in the outlands, left with his civilian clothing, a nominal separation payment, and the enmity of his former unit.

E – Background Vow
To see the Legion pushed out of the Frontier, and its leaders punished for their crimes against humanity. (I’m not thrilled with this, feels a little underdone but does set up a big structural conflict!)

F – Describe our starship
He has a retired medical ship, (nearly?) stripped of useful equipment, that we traded for some not-quite-terrible surgery on a fugitive crime boss and half our savings. The faded and scraped lettering on its hull reads “Hippo” and Arthan is becoming progressively less thorough about removing the graffiti his ship collects when he puts down in less-than-controlled areas.

After that, there is one last question to answer – where will we be starting?
