So you’re just skipping Yakuza3-6? Don’t blame you, Yakuza 7 is better than all of them put together. Enjoy yourself! I will enjoy watching.

Here's some more comments now that I've watched the video. I like to think Mitsuo's back tattoo is the same as the phoenix on his jacket, for an obvious gag should we ever see that tattoo. Jo Sawashiro is voiced by Brian Bloom. He's my personal favorite character in the game. In an alternate universe, Captain Sawashiro is very happy Ichi got the guy's wallet. He uses the credit and ID cards within to totally scam and ruin the poor man. Ichi naturally is not told about this.

The new combat system took some getting used to- I hadn’t played any turn based RPGs in a long time. But the characters are fun enough you want to learn how to fight as them. So it wasn’t too bad. There were certain fights I wanted to be more challenging but that may have been because I played on Easy. Other fights I wished were less repetitive, but that’s a common issue with this type of game.

Sorry, Ichiban, it's quite hard to find somewhere to get a duck and a hose at this hour. A duck, anyway. Hmm, the last time a protagonist in this series unjustly went to prison for a best friend, he ended up Chairman of the Clan. Wonder if this will work out as well. I too enjoyed the pun enemy names.

Main antagonist’s goose will soon be cooked thanks to our hero Ichiban.

Not sure which is worse- long story-establishing cutscenes or same interspersed with rigged battles. Guess the game developers believe the latter, not giving us combat control in the prison fight or the graveyard meeting with the Omi goons.

Didn't know Yagami Detective Agency and Genda Law Office were in the game. Makes me excited for Lost Judgment. I too hate seeing the safes and not having a key. Oh well, better than some annoying safecracking minigame.

Not everyone had a cell phone in 2000 yet. I recall being too poor for one until Spring 2001. Ichiban wasn't much of an earner for his family and he's not too educated either, so he had both poverty and lack of technology familiarity against him. I like Nick Ogata too. Yakuza is full of colorful characters. Congrats on the no damage taken achievement against the boss. I like that he gives you a piece of glass, probably the same one he was trying to slash you with in the fight.

Can Collection is one of the most fun Yakuza mini games I’ve ever played. I didn’t even mind grinding for the ultimate weapon only available through it. Wish the game’s other mini games were as great. I can confirm you can get more than 1000 cans in a run during the harder difficulty levels. My favorite part of the game is the titles you earn for certain collection totals. The highest- “King of Cans”. I think some French dudes in history have had that title for reals. PurpleXVI- I too like that aspect of Yakuza. And beating up those who prey on the homeless. Seriously, how low can you go? achtungnight fucked around with this message at 18:56 on Aug 24, 2021 |

I appreciate this game for giving all party members an attitude I can usually understand, if not share. Ichi generally matches my attitude, and he's the main character, which is also good.

He even called out power-jacking as a member of the Yakuza. Remember his shaming that phony porn seller? I wouldn't be surprised if Arakawa did the same thing- come to think of it, he did. In saving Ichi from getting his finger chopped in the beginning. And sacrificing his own finger for a punk he apparently didn't even know.

The vocational school is another great mini game, mostly because of the way Ichiban’s imagination reacts when you pass tests. What, you thought they tossed him around like that for real? No way.

Nice nod to an infamous substory from a previous game in the series. That’s about all I will say. I can confirm it’s possible to beat the game without using Poundmates that much. I did it on Normal difficulty only calling them once each to see the summon, plus emergencies and points where it felt plot appropriate (no spoilers). But it’s a good system nonetheless. Final Fantasy could learn a lot from its brief cutscenes and reliable effects.

Unless of course Bleach Japan has solid alibi and good lawyers. And cutout hit men. Probably they have at least two out of three.

This girl's name is Saeko? Pronounced like the Hitchcock movie? I think she might be a little crazy... Just kidding, she's actually my second favorite player character in the game. And now that I've watched the video, I see that's a common joke. Wonder why you're avoiding Seagull Cinema. achtungnight fucked around with this message at 20:08 on Oct 15, 2021 |

Sumire is my favorite side character in the game. Her English voice is https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stephanie_Sheh, who's had quite a few anime roles.

I admit I played the Management Mini game like Chaos when I did this game last year. I completed it as soon as I could before continuing the main story. The money, skills, and extra party member I earned were quite useful. I also must note I succeeded while never taking out a single loan and completely meeting Nick’s conditions. I may have used the DLC employees a lot more than Chaos did. If you can handle the spoilers they provide, it does offset not having various other employees that are held back by game progress. The cost was never that big an issue. I will admit I had three problems with the minigame though- 1. Your core canon party- Nanba, Saeko, Adachi, etc- never get involved in the business, even when it is fully successful. Come on, they could have at least come on board at maximum bond! 2. I hated how you have to give up some properties to be a full success. I like owning a sports stadium but I didn’t want to give up my cat cafe! My fanfic spun them off as associate companies I still watched over, but this wasn’t canon. 3. You never have to fight the mini game bosses in combat. That was my favorite bit of the cabaret game in Yakuza 0. I hate that it didn’t come back. Great mini game otherwise.

I've been playing Lost Judgment lately and I can confirm the tailing system has undergone some changes. Opinions vary as to whether it's an improvement, I miss the challenge somewhat. The combat system is way better. Hope Lost Judgment is a Let's Play project for you guys in the future. I know you still got a lot of Yakuza 7 though.

I hope you won’t skip the entire rest of the dungeon. There’s one moment (the first monster in a treasure chest) before the boss that deserves showing off, it’s so funny.

Ah, good, you got that moment I mentioned. Shamans are still indeed annoying. Pro tip- to fill your Sugidex with all 3 versions, roam Hamakita Park. They all hang out there in specific spots.

I swear, my Ichiban Holdings had a massage person on retainer who was a zillionaire by the time we were done. Keeping those employees happy is key to success. (And as they increase in rank, they also require exotic massage oils and comfort animals.)

Like many, I was disappointed we didn’t directly fight the boss of the Geominjul (I might be spelling that wrong). We have female characters in the party but not female enemies.

This is the substory I warned Jobbo about spoiling, if it wasn't obvious. Also, it wins my nod for weirdest, most out of place substory in the game.

Shei-kun posted:As someone who has been formally trained in the culinary arts, I say those two jerks didn't get beat up enough. Do not waste food goddamnit. Agreed. You’re farther in the Ichiban Holdings story than I remember. 2 things I’ll point out- - The “offer on cash” cutscene plays after you purchase the most expensive property in each ranking set list. Not that you could get sick of it. - You never have to pay off the new office, which is nice but doesn’t mesh with the dialogue from the scene where you get it.

The Soutenbori Battle Arena has 30 floors of increasing difficulty and I’m pretty sure there are unique prizes for a few of them. Unique enemies too. Didn’t the Grand once have a really awesome eyepatch wearing manager with crazy martial arts skills? I wonder whatever happened to that guy…
