lmao the community playtest feedback

two weeks before launch and the CPU didn't sign high-OVR players & you could practice so hard that your starters literally couldn't play in games due to low fatigue, but it's ok we got a knockoff NCAA 14 skill tree and coaching carousel

I'm guessing the game pass version is last-gen?

I haven’t played a Madden game in like ten years but I kinda had the itch to check this one out, went to Metacritic and ehhh

Most of the reviews said it was just the same copy-paste game as it has been lately. It’s insane to me, because I remember when Madden release day was a huge deal back in the mid-00’s. Sucks to see how far it’s fallen.

So far my Madden Experience has been: started in franchise mode as a UDFA quarterback, got cut midway through the season because even though my team had won all its games, a bug prevented my stats from being recorded so the coach rightfully cut his starting quarterback who had 0 completions for 0 yards and 0 touchdowns. Awesome!

Face of the franchise mode is a little better but for some reason you have no access to the skill sliders during it, so I'm faced with joyless 70-7 blowouts on the too-easy difficulty or insanely frustrating games where I win but throw 2-4 interceptions and also my running backs fumble on multiple drives.

All in all not worth $60!!!!

Haven’t played madden in maybe 5 years, but bought it just to have something on PS5. Have only played MUT and I’m enjoying it a lot. It’s their money-maker so I assume they want that part to be solid out of the gate and I’m sure if I’d been playing it every year I wouldn’t enjoy it as much, but I’m happy with it so far.

Doing Bears stuff and laughed at Devin Hester being classified as a “Route Runner” on his card as well as having a choice pack between Justin Fields and Robert Quinn. Sure their OVRs were the same, but drat if that isn’t a hilarious choice.

I almost bought it last night and my friend texted to tell me that in franchise mode they can't get wins and losses right based on the score of the game. So that seems like a big bug.

Yeah it used to be a huge thing. People lined up at Gamestop. I think they still print money because the games are basically casinos now with the card stuff.

Not as taciturn, but still terribly powerful...

How bad is this game if I haven't played a Madden game since the Obama administration?

I.e. if its a copy paste of something from 3 years ago with roster updates, will I care since it will all be New To Me? Getting the itch to play some video game football with the season kicking off, but I'm basically trained on 1990s-2000s era sports games in that I just want to play a franchise for a few years. Is that still possible or are these games like fully sports themed mobile/Lootbox/card pack simulators that exist to print microtransaction money for the publisher?

As a fellow haven't played it a while person, I'm still enjoying it. Franchise does seem needlessly complicated now, but I haven't looked closely at what I can shunt off to the CPU and what I have to do myself.

I would hold off on buying it until they release the next update that adds a more robust and deep scouting system to franchise mode. They promised that this would be in the game but of course it wasn't complete in time so they shipped it with the current crappy scouting system where you just press buttons and it tells you if a player is good or not. Aside from the coming system being, hopefully, better, it's probably wise to wait because the update is going to break your existing franchise save and make you start over.

If the idea of losing a saved franchise doesn't bother you then I'd go ahead and get the game now. They fixed the extremely egregious bug that caused people to randomly lose games -- like, you would win, and then it turned out the game recorded none of your stats or points -- so it's playable again. The gameplay isn't that different from last year's Madden but like you say, you haven't played it in a long time so it will be pretty new for you.

Scouting update is boring, tedious, and adds virtually no fun. Draft logic still sucks with the Lions, Jets, and Eagles all taking QBs in the top 4 picks. Great.

Nobody move and nobody gets hurt.

As someone who exclusively plays franchise mode, I would be upset about these developments if not for the facts that A) I haven't bought the game yet and now I feel even less pressure to do so, and B) it sounds like they canceled the plans so they could focus on the NCAA Football game that I'm way more interested in.

This is an important lesson that EA cannot be trusted to follow through on any post-release plans though, in case they try the same "live service improvements" play next year.

Franchise mode in the 23 beta actually isn’t…terrible? New player motivations and tags seem to make sense. Teams now reevaluate needs after FA and the fifth mock shows it. I only ran one draft and nothing really stood out as wild. Lions kept getting mocked to take 2 QBs in the first round, but signed a franchise QB tagged player (Lol baker mayfield) and ended up taking a tackle and a corner. Still hate the new passing and the player models, but at least team building seems like it won’t be so aggravating or teams taking multiple first round QBs on a yearly basis.
