Haven’t played madden in maybe 5 years, but bought it just to have something on PS5. Have only played MUT and I’m enjoying it a lot. It’s their money-maker so I assume they want that part to be solid out of the gate and I’m sure if I’d been playing it every year I wouldn’t enjoy it as much, but I’m happy with it so far.

Doing Bears stuff and laughed at Devin Hester being classified as a “Route Runner” on his card as well as having a choice pack between Justin Fields and Robert Quinn. Sure their OVRs were the same, but drat if that isn’t a hilarious choice.

How bad is this game if I haven't played a Madden game since the Obama administration?

I.e. if its a copy paste of something from 3 years ago with roster updates, will I care since it will all be New To Me? Getting the itch to play some video game football with the season kicking off, but I'm basically trained on 1990s-2000s era sports games in that I just want to play a franchise for a few years. Is that still possible or are these games like fully sports themed mobile/Lootbox/card pack simulators that exist to print microtransaction money for the publisher?

As a fellow haven't played it a while person, I'm still enjoying it. Franchise does seem needlessly complicated now, but I haven't looked closely at what I can shunt off to the CPU and what I have to do myself.
