No it hard freezes when I back out of the pause menu. I have to force close the game.

Edit: maybe it's a render thing because the scene is vibrating like one pixel.

Edit 2: This is weird. I can still go to the pause menu and back to the game. But the game is hard-frozen.

Y'all using controllers? This looks like it should be played with a controller

Yeah I am. Prefer mouse and keyboards in most games, but this is one of those where controller just feels more natural.

Update:
It's the controller. If i play M+K it's fine. DS4, nope.

That's loving weird.

I dunno, dudes. I unplugged the DS4, booted it, plugged it into a different port and it works.

So, uh, that's a thing to keep in mind?

I had to reinstall my graphic card drivers for this game to get it to start. It would freeze as soon as I hit start / continue at the main menu.

Beat that first level before calling it a night (baby duty). That sure is a nightmare design of a level. I can see why they put that trigger warning up before the game starts. :magical:

I enjoy the combination of perspective-tricks that they are ABSOLUTELY bringing back, alongside the different gravity situations. They took two of the best parts of the base game's platforming from the first game, and included them in the original. And then did some Superliminal perspective poo poo to let you know that they are going to be playing with this stuff.

This is going to be my expectation they'll have to surpass. They signed the check, I've seen some review that show they play with it, I'm going to be playing it with the expectation that they'll cash it. I really hope they do.

Game's good so far, enjoying the new characters and areas. Only issue I'm getting is some stuttering when loading new areas/scenes rarely.

As someone geeking out for this privately since it was announced, finally played the VR game when I could, and got this poo poo a day earlier than expected, I am vibrating in my seat at how excited I am to play this more. It is hitting all the sweet spots and fixing the I disliked about the original. This is great

There was nothing wrong with the original. Its almost the perfect platformer

I replayed 1 in anticipation of this, 100%ed every level and just by sheer luck beat it right at midnight. Booted up 2 and the UI is scaled insanely unusably huge, like the subtitles in the opening recap don't even fit on the screen and toggling the big subtitles accessibility option does nothing either way. What a waste of good timing :'(

EDIT also whoever did the voice for the St Bernard in Black Velvetopia totally should have been the new Sam voice in the Telltale Sam and Max games

I'm really loving it so far, my emotions are all over the place that this thing is loving real.

Also I finished the tutorial missing a single figment so I'm glad some things will never change.

Holy poo poo it's exactly what I wanted, only through the first classroom mission and into the casino mission now but there's just SO MUCH to it. Using clairvoyance and seeing how everybody sees Raz (and how some of them see each other, that poor lady in love with the dude who only thinks about bacon) is so great. Plays like a dream at ultra high settings, controls are fine, the game is gorgeous. gently caress yes.

Played up through the first two brains, and this is really good so far. I absolutely love the graphical style & animation. The controls feel really smooth too.

I just finished my first replay of the original in over a decade. I was really surprised by how well it held up for its age, but playing them back to back makes the 2nd game look absolutely incredible.

I missed one figment in each of the first two levels, of course.

Man I know the first game was like this too, but it still surprises me (pleasantly) how they're able to navigate such a fine line between comedy and looking at some pretty intense issues. If the game keeps up this level of quality, then it's going to be hard to beat for games played this year.

Enjoying this very very much so far. In terms of gameplay it's kinda the same if a bit tighter. The presentation is absolutely outstanding imo. The design, animation, voice acting, the small flourishes everywhere, the timing of the bits, just loving it.

One time i prank called a bear buildin workshop and said I wanted my mamaws ashes put in a teddy from where she loved them things so well... The woman on the phone did not skip a beat. She just said, "Brang her on down here. We've did it before."
I never played Psychonauts 1 and this is super fun so far! I just made it to the hub last night and mucked around a bit before bed. Really feels like I'm playing through a fun cartoon in the best way.

Shout out to the game for having nice accessibility options for folks who just want the story and jokes to keep rolling (not using it myself, but it's nice to see).

I'm curious what you think of the story, if you're coming in blind. It's got that recap, but I wonder what it's like coming into this game without the background.

Just in case anyone else is playing on a PC hooked up to a TV, setting the DPI scaling override to System fixes this. Note that the executable you need to do this on is steamapps\common\Psychonauts 2\Psychonauts2\Binaries\Win64\Psychonauts2-Win64-Shipping.exe, NOT \steamapps\common\Psychonauts 2\Psychonauts2.exe.

personally, only criticism is that the platforming could be a little bit harder and still be REALLY easy and the balance of cutscenes to gameplay is a bit too skewed to cutscenes

So I've heard the litany of praises for Psychonauts over the years - gave it a shot years back and the opening level didn't really grab me, then I got distracted with something else and put it down and never finished it. Knowing that the sequel was coming out made me go back and pick it up again and holy poo poo I'm really glad I did. I finished it about 15 minutes ago and what a wonderful game! I was amazed at how much personality and humour was crammed into every nook and cranny and pleasantly surprised at how little collectable grinding was required to progress. I think what surprised me the most though was how well it holds up for a 16 year old 3D platformer - I ran into a little jank here and there in terms of edge detection on platforms and ropes but the only things that I found frustrating was one particular jump I kept failing in Waterloo (because it was very tedious to get back up to) and some of the boss fight stuff.

I'm now a Psychonauts convert and thrilled to dive into the second game soon, but tomorrow I'm going to drag my headset out and go play the VR game.

Playing the VR game does add a surprising amount to the intro of 2, the whole thing is a direct tie-in. I was expecting 2 to just sorta say "yardda yadda Loboto whatever" but it manages to bridge a story that took a 16 year break and actually make it feel like it happened within a week. It doesn't pay lip service, it follow through on its events and story beats..

And this is speaking as somebody who recently played Psychonauts but not, like, super recently.

Everything about this game is so fantastic, and i'm only up to the bit where the game hub really opens up it looks like. Though for those in the know, I bought the shiny rainbow punches pin and Raz's mits are still the same big orange lantern things they always were. Did I misunderstand that or something?
