I like Idles. Brutalism was a great album. My favorite punk band is probably Flipper. Dead Milkmen are also up there. Sex Pistols are garbage and I want to spit in John Lydon's smug face. |

Seriously though, flipper rules and the end of this track always cracks me up. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3vTkZ-0HNWk I have a weird love for punk bands that pissed off their audience tho. (See also: Stick Men With Ray Guns and No Trend) |

Seven Seconds, as in Kevin Seconds? Well now we’re getting one degree from my favorite stuff. Dude did a split with Matt Skiba from Alkaline Trio. https://youtu.be/O_OmRwZ58aE?list=PLFWddfuOoNbYPo8hxN1jKkGWLpdPCC73T Yes, I was an emo kid in college. I don’t care. So yeah. Summer 2001-ish. Home from college and hanging out with some friends from HS. At the home of this one dude who went through a hard punk phase when we were still in HS. Like, dumpster diving and all. Dude had been trying to get me into some of his favorite bands for a while. “C’mon dude, stuff makes it to the radio for a reason. It’s a step above.” said dumbass me before. But this day, while I was at his house, this video was playing on his computer. https://youtu.be/q4Wh6LklD4M WHAT THE HELL IS THAT asked a newly awakened me. From that day, I learned how dumb and wrong I had been, and my friend introduced me to a new world. Now yeah, that IS a video on VH1. This was kinda the album that started Alkaline Trio getting some airtime. But they weren’t there quite yet. And while I love all their stuff, it was their self-titled that sealed them as my new favorite band. Some of that later maybe. e: Sherbert Hoover posted:oh dang i didn't know about this Friend I am thrilled to have introduced you to it then Lock fucked around with this message at 17:15 on Aug 28, 2021 https://giant.gfycat.com/ThoseAcrobaticCapybara.webm |

Flipper is probably one of the most underrated punk bands and was a huge influence on sludge metal and weird slower punk. Their Generic album is a cornerstone of weird Nihilistic punk. Their follow up Gone Fishin' is also really good. Those were their only studio albums but Public Flipper Limited is a good live album with lots of their weird audience interactions. Blowing Chunks and Sex Bomb Baby are also good collections. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_TTzLa6sUNs X is a loving classic LA punk band I really need to listen to more of. Their album Los Angeles was hugely influential. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fUiZHt6sqg4 Stick Men With Ray Guns are a totally weird Dallas punk band that only has a few recordings. They eventually sorta fell apart because the lead singer was pretty unstable. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ib7qN-0DFGw No Trend lived to troll their audience, they eventually started playing mostly noise rock, but when that became popular they ended up releasing an album of Muzak. Their final album was too weird for Touch & Go Records. Drag City recently released a collection of their stuff. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1g778pbgesI Nation of Ulysses are a somewhat odd punk band from D.C. Play Pretty For Baby and 13 Point Program to Destroy America are both really good albums. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i18-QzqlmkU Dead Milkmen are a weird sorta comedy punk band from Philly. They're goofy as hell but I love them and Big Lizard In My Backyard is a classic, drat it! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1v3CzvQ9e_w I don't listen to them enough, but Black Flag is definitely important. Greg Ginn can go to hell though. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a6otjCKg594 Spazz is some wild poo poo and a big influence on the powerviolence subgenre of punk that is really weird. Crush Kill Destroy is a classic album and has some of the funniest samples imho. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eHYaOGWtORQ Wipers were a really influential punk band from Portland that played more emotional kind of punk. Kurt Cobain was a big fan, apparently. I think they're really underrated. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aO6IhSL11Uk Naked Raygun is a great Chicago punk band that was a major influence on Big Black. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jDfaKNbTXnk |

I forgot how short punk songs can be. Post more punk songs! I'll post some of my own. Folk Punk? band The Front Bottoms. I had to drive the entire length of the east coast and my coworker played them on loop and thought they were awful until about the 12th hour I heard them over that trip and thought they were good. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u-Qw6T_FKMc Streetlight Manifesto. A band I got recommended when I started playing warcraft. They had a lot songs that spoke to me at the time https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u2yeNzL7rTU The Bombpops. A girl-punk band that just showed up on spotify one day but have catchy songs https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K7YEFju2p8k Go Betty Go. Another girl-punk where I don't remember where I found but it's nostalgic for some reason https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7iZhs-p_7Wo |

Otoboke Beaver is a great punk band from Kyoto. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fkWfFXnLpYg Wattushii Zombie from Nara was pretty neat. I used to see them pretty often. I had a really cool shirt of theirs I really regret giving to my step brother who lost his mind. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=670JTP45wlA I need to listen to more Eastern Youth. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NKESSbPRFr4 Mad Capsule Markets are really cool punk stuff. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FR2Qe_MwzJg G.I.S.M. are a classic Japanese hardcore band I need to listen to more of. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F-ELJeb_JsM Warhead is a somewhat infamous Osaka act I still need to listen to. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=60IoVh5Pb1I |
