Very fond of Nation of Ulysses; Ian Svenonius and James Canty are formative artists for me. Everything Svenonius has done is exactly my poo poo.

Chain and the Gang is another Spiv special; Katie from Priests is in it.

I can't believe nobody ITT is talking about Fugazi.

Obviously I'm going to just tell you all to go listen to Propagandhi, I can't link videos because I'm doing a different thing that involves casting my phone to multiple screens right now, but start with Today's Empires, Tomorrow's Ashes. The entire album. Especially Ladies' Nite. Work your way forward from there.

You are so very welcome.

Came here to post this. Propagandhi is my favorite band of all time and it's not even close at this point. They just keep pulling away from the pack with each successive record. I'll post a banger from each of their records.

I'm not nearly as into their old stuff as their newer stuff, but the crowds go loving insane when they play this stuff live.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=69E2K6MZEPY

This is probably their most well known song as it was included on a Fat Records comp in the '90s.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I5YZ7FELtCI

Today's Empires Tomorrows Ashes marks a MASSIVE tonal shift compared to their previous work. Darker, Thrashier, and just more brutal overall. A lot of this has to do with the departure of John K Samson and Todd Kowalski (I Spy) joining. Todd is my hero. This record loving rules, and is in the process of being remixed and mastered because Chris HATES the way it sounds. The songs loving rule though.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NrsYjX1exfU

Potemkin City Limits is probably the most difficult record of theirs to get into, but man is it rewarding when you do. It's also loving impossible to sing along to because the parts are so loving high. Seriously, try singing this song. I love it soooo much.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JcsOetFowz8

Supporting Caste is their masterpiece in my opinion. This might be the best song off that record, but it's got a lot of competition. This is the first record featuring a second guitarist- Dave "Beaver" Guillas joined just after Potemkin was released. His playing is a little more "noodly" and schooled than Chris' playing and their styles really go well together. There is a lot of really cool interplay between the two guitars going on.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dvZyT9pRemA

Failed States is a very dark, heavy record. This is probably my favorite song of all time. Chris did a 2 part patreon episode about this song, and it is one of the most harrowing, fascinating things I've ever heard.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wGf8vrXhFQY

Victory Lap is their newest record featuring their new guitarist Sulynn Hago. She loving shreds beyond belief. This song is sung by the Bassist Todd Kowalski and it's about his dad. This is the heaviest song ever written, as in just sheer WEIGHT. Its loving oppressively heavy. It's about slowly watching his dad die of depression and alcoholism. gently caress.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8J-GLiAelcg

Join Chris Hannah's Patreon. It's the best money I've ever spent. https://www.patreon.com/jesushchris/posts

I'll make a separate post later about other bands but uhhh go loving listen to this band like now

Everything Gramps wrote, but Sulynn is possibly one of the best technical guitarists in the industry and they're loving blessed to have her. For real. I've taken lessons with her; she loving changed the way I play.

Basically, holy poo poo it's a punk band that can play their loving instruments, y'all.

When I was learning guitar I figured out once you learn two or three chords you can play all of AC/DC's discography and I laughed at how basic it all was. Before that I was in three different punk bands.

Kody Templeman is the king of modern pop punk. The Lillingtons and Teenage Bottlerocket are both super fun bands that sing stupid songs about movies and other dumb stuff. Fabulous stuff. I think Death by Television is the best pop punk record ever.

:justpost: because I'm :trashed: but the band dating from sweden is pretty great. Imagine a midwest emo band like american football but with more noise and distortion in the production. I dunno how the thread feels about bandcamp links but I can't find them on YouTube so here's what I consider their best album. If you want a single track I recommend "give them nails":

The formative grandparents of Hongdae Punk, formerly known as Joseon Punk. They're still active bands. Highly recommended, and also, lol look up some of the poo poo they get up to.

Drinking Boys and Girls Choir is also important to Korean punk but specifically skate punk.

Galaxy Express is also interesting but they're more garage/psych than punk, though they get lumped into punk bc of their legal trouble and very early sound.

Skasucks is fun as hell if you like skapunk.

Punk in Korea is interesting in that the government very specifically STILL cracks down on indie music, but in particular, punk.

Trash Yang and Jeff Moses interesting people.

Hyper regional post- please check out these bands, they all should have been huge but were from Billings MT so only a few thousand kids ever saw em at most. Bolga for example only played maybe a dozen shows tops.

Bolga: I actually was second engineer on this record. This is probably my favorite thing I ever worked on. The hosed up ending to the guitar solo on Brown Shoes is something I convinced them to keep cause it just sounded so loving cool. I miss these guys.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=59-5y51fWqk

Noise Noise Noise: These dudes are amazing and put out quite a few records and toured a shitload in the early 2000s. If you like crazy garage powerpop this is your poo poo.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a_uvzXETRM4

JMvsJM: The lead singer of this band was in the very first band I ever saw live. Josh is an absolutely wild dude, but awesome guy and just an incredible performer.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iRfgUw_Q0xE

Coldsnap9: These fellas are the titans of the Billings MT punk scene, and some of my favorite human beings to ever live.

That's fuckin rad that you saw them. I guess if you were a punker around that time they toured a shitload with a bunch of cool bands like The Reddmen and I think they went EVERYWHERE in the PNW especially. The lead singer Kelly was in a band with my ex back in the day. I loving love those dudes.

I refuse to let this thread die.

Have some Lonely Kings. Another band I discovered when they toured through and I was lucky enough to be the house sound guy when they played. You know a band rules when the soundguy goes straight to the merch table when their set's done.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MzaBjC3SxAs

And to continue the theme of "bands I ran sound for and completely fell in love with", A Wilhelm Scream. I met these dudes when they were still called Smackin Isaiah and I've probably seen them live more than any other band over the last 20 years. They still greet me like an old friend whenever I see them, which is awfully sweet of them considering what a fuckin pest I am. Probably my favorite people I ever met while soundguy-ing. Just the absolute best dudes. They loving SHRED too.
