I still feel like Worms: Armageddon is a gold standard for this. You could and still can have a bunch of people huddled around one person's computer, new players won't necessarily be able to use the bread and butter bazooka and grenades well but can still have fun with less physics-influenced weapons, there's often funny poo poo happening, and people who aren't taking their turn can chill and shoot the poo poo.
