The Zuse Z1 was a mechanical computer from the late 1930s. I've seen a reconstruction in a museum in either Berlin or Munich and this thing's a fuckin monster. It's huge and there's a zillion moving parts. Here's a clip I found which I'm sure faithfully reproduces the din from one of these things: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9ukZCrvvXfo

I went to great lengths to make my nas quiet. I replaced all the case fans and installed passive heatsinks for the processors. it worked like a charm then one day it woke me up in the middle of the night with a very loud beeping - apparently the motherboard has an overheat alarm that was triggered when it was moving linux isos from the cache drive to the main pool. when this happened a second time I bought processor heatsinks with fans, and now I have a disappointingly audible nas instead of a whisper quiet nas that's my loud computer story, thank you for reading
