welcome to Nodevember 2021! a celebration of all things procedural. the website: https://www.nodevember.io the twitter: https://twitter.com/NodevemberIO procedural is the fun thing everyone is doing and showing off on twitter, instagram, etc. its about creating things programmatically so you can create different versions of those things by just tweaking a few values how about an example: https://i.imgur.com/94j6Nj5.mp4 this is a dumb thing i whipped up in a few minutes, but it demonstrates the point. from a few primitives you can create many variations, and it can be spread across a surface without repetition its called "node"-vember because popular visual design software such as blender, houdini, touch designer, and substance designer use node-based visual programming languages. of course its not just limited to these programs, and its not limited to nodes at all. some procedural software uses different paradigms, like quixel mixer which uses a stack flow. some people write scripts to integrate into thse programs. as long as its programmatic its good nodevember is a chance to show off these procedural works. there will be a prompt for every two days of the month, 15 in total. if you want to join in, great! no effort is too low, no hell fucker too idiotic to try it out. if you have no idea where to start, here is some software that people use visual: blender (free) houdini (free for non-commercial usage) quixel mixer (free) touch designer (free for non-commercial usage) substance designer (adobe , find it on steam for $150) Notch (free trial, no saving) Shade (iOS) (free trial, $16 after) audio: nodal (free trial for 30 days) WolframTones (free, online) Bitwig (free trial,no saving or export) multimedia: Pure Data (free) Ofelia (pure data external) (free) of course if you just download a program you probably won't have any idea what to do. so check out this website, "youtube.com", theyve got all sorts of tutorials over there. if you want to get started with blender i can't re\commend erindale enough, he has tutorials specific to nodevember. a couple more examples: https://i.imgur.com/MW6ccCd.mp4 infinitely random checkers boards. the previous video used the new geometry nodes, this is all done with old slow shader nodes Houdini: https://i.imgur.com/oUxgtU3.mp4 houdini's entire workflow is done in node networks, it takes just a couple minutes to make a spreading fire simulation like this one post your nodevember works in this thread! ask for help in this thread! just post in this thread! previous year's thread: https://forums.somethingawful.com/showthread.php?threadid=3946165

initially read it as no-dev November (like no nut November) and was very supportive of everyone taking a month off from telling computers to do things

what happens if you combine no nut november and nodevember

I “wrote” the entirety of rodrocket with nodes, although I did design the meshes by hand, but other than that pure nodes. not a single texture either. nodes are the god drat future. I can’t believe they aren’t in the big world of image manipulation yet. using layers in photoshop after using nodes feels like such antiquated technology. nodes make what is happening so obvious. they’re so intuitive. nodes nodes god drat nodes
