TLDR it’s steadily gotten worse but used to be really great on the GC then a little worse on the Wii

Holy poo poo this is bad, lmao, I haven't played any of the N64 games yet but god drat.

I recently tried turning on my TV's "TruMotion" feature while using the Switch, and the results are honestly kind of astounding. It makes 30fps games look like they're running in 60+fps; I can't visually tell much of a difference between this and genuine higher framerates. The "motion smoothing" stuff on TVs always feels a little strange/uncanny when watching movies or any sort of live action stuff, but it seems to be remarkably effective at making games seem like they're running with a higher framerate than they actually are. It's particularly noticeable when doing stuff like panning a camera (panning the camera in big 3d open-world type games is probably one of the few situations where the limitations of 30fps are really noticeable). It's possible that there might be some strangeness resulting from this that is noticeable in higher resolutions, but in 1080p I can't notice anything weird.

edit: I get the impression that there might be artifacts around edges, but it's just hard to notice because the game I'm playing (Xenoblade 2) has fuzzy edges to everything to begin with.

This increases the processing time of the image so you're adding additional input delay.

While I personally liked the weapon durability system, I do agree it'd be nice if there was some benefit to doing it-- materials that feed into an upgrade system as you mentioned would be cool, especially if the value of those materials scale up based on how strong/rare the weapon was, encouraging you to use it instead of holding it in your inventory for a long time.

That's a really good idea, it actually would give the durability purpose and breaking a weapon leads to some sort of progress. In BOTW all it did was make you stockpile several of the same weapons and you just rotated to the next one and considering that were about 6 different attack animations for all of them nothing really changed.

Yeah, Pilotwings 64 is the ultimate chill game (though some of the challenges are actually hard or annoying) but you go for that Birdman and just coast among the clouds with the porno rear end music that plays? Heaven. I was blown away at the scale of the game and the ability to fly around everywhere when it first game out, it was nothing I ever experienced because I was coming from the NES.
