I always hate hacking minigames in games. If there's a skill or item that lets me bypass hacking, I'm gonna use it. Same with lockpicking. Tedious poo poo. Is irl hacking like that?

It depends on what you're doing. Sneaking into buildings / social engineering / any red teaming in general can be fun. I have a handful of stories from when I used to do red teaming if anyone in this thread is interested. My job these days is a lot of IoT, mobile app, and web app hacking which can get you some cool findings, but those are more technical and less relatable / interesting to non-computer touchers.

When I was doing my CCNA several years ago, my tutor would refer to any sort of secuirity breach as 'hacking'. To him typing 'show run' to get the username and password (if it wasn't encrypted) on a router was a form of hacking. Before that I thought that hacking used to involve using a hex editor to edit lines of code or data. I remember doing that in Eye of the Beholder 2 to make my characters indestructable and before that I did the same thing in the saved games of my Goldbox games to give all my characters stats of 25.
