oh, my, god. Becky, look at her bitrate.
i love channel locks

the knipex cobra is even better, but this is my home toolbag and not my work toolbag which contains those (and a few more pairs of channel locks)

oh, my, god. Becky, look at her bitrate.
also very good tools:

- folding ruler, the inside measuring type specifically

- klein ironworkers pliers

- knipex pliers wrench

- knipex makes a wire stripper that has a narrow jaw like a needle nose, but its wide like a linesman, and it has a wire stripper

- nws makes a diagonal cutting plier which uses a pin and slot to increase the mechanical advantage

bad tools:

- klein 7 in 1 nut driver

- klein channel locks

not a tool so much as an accessory, but disconnects that save you from having to access the port directly, and save you the wear on the connector itself. whether it's a stereo audio cable, hdmi, usb, or whatever. having a piece that just occupies the port, and you interface everything with that piece instead. big fan of disconnects / couplers like that

like this for example, for rca stereo left / right:

those are nice, because you can just go straight from a miniplug jack directly into the stereo

things like that, or optical couplers for spdif audio

i use those or similar on a lot of projects

Is that a challenge?

I still have to juggle monitor cables around when I want to WFH, and have DP > DVI adapters hanging out of every port involved for that exact reason.

....I should buy a splitter and/or monitors with multiple inputs, but this "temporary" setup from 3 years ago was cheaper!

I wrenched my shoulder yesterday trying to drive a JIS screw into a stud with a phillips head screwdriver without the screwdriver camming out and stripping the gently caress out of the screw. I regret not getting the right tool, or at least the right screws

i took them out and will maybe come up with a little vise mount for them or something. they're just m5 through holes

i really want a robot arm for the shop but we've never been able to justify it. our standard curriculum maxes out at 3-axis machining and we can't argue that we need a $50,000 robot arm that will be used by one grad student and two keen undergrads per year.

but i really want one.

how about a 100kg payload kuka? possibly for free (if you can get tax deduction documents from your institution)

oh, my, god. Becky, look at her bitrate.
trip report: the knipex wire strippers are amazing. the head is small enough to push wires into the corners of boxes, but wide enough to get a good twist. the blades are sharp.

the only downsides are that the extra bit of metal just below the largest wire stripper size, presumably to prevent the wire from falling into the cutters. thats what i want to do!
also that it only goes down to 8 Awg solid

I ordered some nice looking 4mm bit drivers from AliExpress. I have a shitload of the bits but only one handle, and after a job where I needed 4 different kinds of bits and I just kept swapping them again and again, I thought: why don't I just buy several handles so I can have a bunch of bits loaded at the same time?? Like a classic set of mini screwdrivers but more flexible??
