The algorithm delivered this to me the other day and I liked it:

It's a bit more metal than hardcore but I think it still kind of has that crossover appeal, like metal that's very sloppy and not at all technical.

I make my way back and East Bay Ray and their current drummer were now sharing the booth with us. The drummer was a super sweet guy, maybe about the same age as me and clearly a fan just happy to be playing these songs. East Bay Ray was clearly super into the ~20 year olds at the table and my friend. The girls picked up Ray was in a band and when asked what band, he pointed to me and said "he'll tell you", knowing I'd enthusiastically nerd out about DK - a pretty good flirting move, but kinda lovely. I realised what he was doing about half way through talking about DK, but couldn't really back out.

With 4 months to go before lineup and ticket sales, I’m gonna take this as an opportunity to use this post as a free commercial for Fest because all of us here are probably around 40 and anyone who hasn’t been regardless of whether punk is a nostalgic thing for them or still active in their local scenes, Fest truly is a Mecca and you’ll regret not going sooner.

https://www.thefestfl.com takes place around Halloween each year in Gainesville, when the student population go to Jacksonville and the entire city gets taken over by the punks. There’s more than 10 venues of different sizes and you just wander between them checking out the bands that you grew up with to newer ones that’ll become new favorites. The vibe is loving ace and you rarely hear about any issues, and the age skews older than most festivals. The lack of usual festival mud is great and having proper accommodation is awesome (hotels, air bnbs etc). Friday night is usually ska night at one of the bigger outside stages and it’s the most fun thing ever, and despite how many people go it somehow never feels stupid busy and claustrophobic.

Shameless video I made by just filming a minute or so of each band I caught at this years. Finally got to see Samiam and Suicide Machines, aw yiss.

Shut up, Nick! You're not Twilight.
I realize this is the punk thread and ska sucks and all that, but Im surprised the passing of Terry Hall from The Specials has gone unmentioned. The guys work was pretty influential on a whole lot stuff including punk.

a Cramps song getting used in the new Addams family show and then the scene going viral but with the song edited out lmao sucks.

Ivy and Lux were as close as you're going to get to a real life Morticia and Gomez, they deserve a little time in the spotlight.

The Michelob Ultra ad that used "Good Taste" was one of those record-scratch moments for me. I just tried to search for it but came up empty. It's up there with Carnival Cruise Lines using "Lust for Life" or the Beef Council using "Eat Steak" in terms of cognitive dissonance.

I'm not going out tonight, so just playing some records. Side 2 of "Zen Arcade" loving rips. I've already listened to "Walk Among Us", so I didn't think tonight could rip any harder, but here we are.

Found a good flyer in one of my boxes of old crap, it’s from an 89 show of Pushead originals in nyc. There was lots of early punk and hardcore stuff in there like the Exploited logo, Youth Brigade, I think Rattus, and a ton of poo poo I forgot
