Yeah the 'Autobots enslaved the Decepticons' bit doesn't really come from anywhere in the canons The IDW comics and the general 'Aligned' continuity based stuff (including Prime and War For/Fall Of Cybertron) did have Optimus (as Orion Pax) and Megatron be revolutionaries who both fought to overthrow the previous lovely caste-based status quo and shared correspondence until Megatron went full fash and Orion Pax dug up the Matrix of Leadership (funny thing, Orion Pax is explicitly a different person from Optimus Prime, the latter being a manifestation of the gestalt consciousness of the Matrix that includes him)

I recently rewatched the 3 part pilot on youtube and was surprised they could all fly but just figured it was something I had forgotten.
