There was a year or two period in the 50s when Dagwood was hunting Communists in the State Department. Also in the 80s King Features Syndicate tried to do a "Crisis on Infinite Earths" thing where he lost some kind of lawsuit against Hi and Lois and he tried to hire Funky Winkerbean to kill them.
