I loaded up my game this morning to find that someone had used my pawn to the point of sending her back with 14,000 RC, a bunch of items, tons of bestiary knowledge and some significant quest knowledge. No rating or anything though, so I'm assuming my pawn must have died at some point. With that much RC they must have really liked her. So I then spent my money on red skin dye and green hair so now she's a horrible fat goblin or Oompa Loompa.

Wow, the game sure gets pretty nuts in terms of difficulty after going beyond the Great Wall. I was really getting used to this all-powerful thing and now that seems to have been taken away from me. e: I mean this in the best way possible though. It's makes everything fresh again like the beginning of the game is, except with all of your skills you feel like even more of a badass Teeter fucked around with this message at 20:36 on May 25, 2012 |

The game arrived today and I love it. I've gone strider with a mage main pawn to act as support mostly. What skills transfer from the strider to magic archer/assassin/ranger? I've already unlocked assassin and I'm level 16. I'd love to keep the roll/double jump mostly. I'm likely to move over to assassin or magic archer I think but haven't decided yet.

How do the magic classes tend to play out? Sitting there channeling with lots of cast timers and cooldowns, or more mobile? Also does the game have much in the way of tutorials or is it a real Dark Souls "here's some of the controls, have fun " sort of thing?

Question I haven't seen asked yet: I'm on XBox, and I have a character created on my hard drive and my cloud save. Which one's pawn will my friends see? The last one I rented with? Does it matter? What if I stuck a thumb drive in and created a third character and pawn? As a slightly related aside, I created a new character that had a pawn out and helping a friend, and noticed that when I reached the riftstone and created a new pawn with the new character, I got some exp and money that my previous pawn had gained out adventuring. Overbite posted:I spent a couple hours trying to do that Mercedes escort with no healing because I'm dumb, all because I wanted that sword reward that sells for like 100k. I never got it, I got some shield instead. My pawn can use it but I really could use that cash Manatee Cannon posted:What I've noticed is that most people opt for a male main character and a female pawn. I went the other way around and have this massive grizzled old man as my pawn and a woman main. My pawn is a female warrior named Paksennarion, I have a dwarf warrior as a pawn for my other character, but people just send message about how fat he looks, and his lower body looks weird no matter what I try.

Well, I've only played a few hours so far, did that underground quest in the big city, I just ran past the ogre after he killed me twice, so as far as I know, he's still down there. He did chase me back up the stairs though. But what I really like so far is pissing around the countryside. Did some quest to take a guy to some place called the Shadow Fort or something, ended up running through the night with him, chased by various lizard men. Best bit so far was that night, I was wandering around, and came to some place called Devilfire Grove I think? Well, it looked like the shortest route to the fort, so I started across, and saw some fire. Assumed it was bandits, but it soon turned out to be some kind of firebreathing thing. Then it started flying around so I ran away. Found a camp place, rested until morning, went to see what it was. A loving dragon. Then the goblins attracted its attention so I had to run away again. My main pawn is a big, tall, muscly, beardy guy. I know, not very original. However, he's also a Sorcerer. Haven't had much use out of him yet because he was unarmed for that whole run through the woods. I was wondering why he wasn't helping much, but I've got him a staff now so everything's fine. Tusk Toss is great, and so is Springboard, although I've only used the second to throw allies in the air for no good reason. It's funny, so that's enough reason for me.

After a 3 day stretch not reading this thread because it wasn't out here yet, I have it! Carrot and his pawn Rincewind are now blundering through Gransys. For now I'm just playing with myself and my main pawn. I've just reached Gran Soren after backtracking a bit after the hydra and climbing down a well. That place was quite hard and it must've taken me 7 attempts to get through them. It was a bit of a Dark Souls moment where I was just getting crushed repeatedly until I found a tactic that worked. Being VERY careful in only fighting one at a time and cutting their tails off ASAP really helped and in the attempt where I killed them all, I didn't even need to heal. Very Dark Souls'y. Then I promptly ran into a group of 3 bandits on my way out who just wrecked me. I prepared myself and went to go and get revenge but they were replaced by a bunch of easy spiders, I guess spawns are random... edit: Holy poo poo so I'm under Gran Soren fighting that Ogre, I jump on his face and he promptly goes batshit insane and charges - right off the edge. I'm thinking "poo poo!" but he breaks my fall and I took a shortcut. edit2: Rincewind just came back from helping someone, good appearance but not very helpful! His nickname is 'Yellow'. Well I'm doing the shadowfort escort quest and so far have been ambushed by Lizardmen with a chimera which killed me so I avoided it next time, goblins with a cyclops I killed and just now goblins with a drake. Just to get to one of the first quests available.

If you think the game is too easy, don't worry. At the very, very end the whole game goes batshit insane and I love it. Post dragon hellhounds are seriously tougher than chimeras. The black chimera wasn't as hard as the drake, but the goat head can heal it for a full health bar at a time. Post dragon you really need more than just fire because most of the enemies that were weak to it aren't anymore. Hellhounds (wolves), succubi (harpies). They take no damage from it and it actually strengthens the hounds. There's a golem near the midway point between the encampment and city! And then, outside of Gran Seran there's a lightning spewing wyvern and a ton of gargoyles that can petrify you. The game goes into overdrive after you kill the dragon. I can't wait to see what happened to the drake. If the whole game was like that and the quests were all like hunting the griffon or assaulting Shadow Fort this'd be GOTY no doubt. Oh, and if the menus weren't awful.

Ledneh posted:How do the magic classes tend to play out? Sitting there channeling with lots of cast timers and cooldowns, or more mobile? It takes a bit of strategy. Either charging up spells and then approaching groups of enemies to unleash them on, or knowing what spell to cast when. There's so much in battles that's context-sensitive that I've really enjoyed it. For example, if there are a ton of bandits then I'll start with high necromancy before they reach me to thin their numbers a bit while they're immobilized. If I'm in a tight area then high gicel can take out many people at once, and a well placed comestion can be devastating if it's timed right when enemies are grouped. I keep ingle for quick casting, and maelstrom for times when everyone is distracted and I can really unleash. It takes a bit of maneuvering to make sure you're both out-of-danger yet still in range to be a threat, as well as quarterbacking pawns around. I also find myself using the basic X attack quite a bit because it's a rapid-fire homing shot of whatever your staff is enchanted with. Quick bursts of that can stun most things while you move around. The cooldowns are definitely a factor, but the spells are so powerful that you've got to account for that and make every shot count which ends up being pretty cool if you ask me.

In the early game my biggest issue with the Mage has been figuring out who's weak to what, and who's immune to what.. Also, buy a staff with SOME elemental attacki on it, ASAP. I recommend fire since it makes harpies a joke.

On the subject of "why are all the pawns female" I personally have only hired male pawns, but my own is female because I wanted to A) make a black woman and I was already committed to my main and B) I wanted a fighter who could tank ogres . It has paid dividends as she's the only one they attack and she has got this! Only thing I regret is I still haven't fixed her voice (spent all my money on gear when I got to Gran Soren), but it's growing on me.

From what I saw, you don't automatically go into NG+ with the defeat of the dragon. There's a post-game for you to explore and part of it involves a...canonical explanation for why you can go into NG+, I think. Don't fret about the dragon overmuch. I hear people are beating the game at level 40, but I just hit 20 and had my first run in with a drake. He liquified my party in a single belch.

So yeah what strider skills transfer to assassin/magic archer and how have people found them? I use my daggers more but I'm finding the bow a lot of fun, especially full bend that knocks things over. I love riding the pain train, but my stamina can't seem to keep up, especially if I do any climing. I know that strider has some stamina reduction augments--are there other augments I should be on the lookout for in Assassin or Ranger?

Do skills that have no icon mean any class can use them? Edit: I think I'm going to go magic archer anyway. I'm having a lot of fun with the bow and arrow and generally have been running with 1 figher, 1 warrior and 1 mage so I'm light on magic damage. Oh man, this game. I was doing the Grimoire quest, and had been doing well. I'd taken the high ground, and basically killed off all the bandits but the boss and an archer. I was up on the battlements, cheesing one of them by standing on a parapet while using AOE freeze... ... and the archer full bend shotted me off the battlements, to fall to my death about 100 feet below and a mile away. Yep. Thinking I need to wait a bit on that quest.
