Well, I'd prefer something with clearer vocals, but I never did get around to checking ATR out in any depth and this thrashy shrieking IS floating my boat, so thanks for the suggestion! Anyone with any other suggestions? Last.fm and Spotify's related artist tabs aren't really helping outside of Chicks on Speed, who I'd forgotten about and aren't really industrial, but fit in the lyrical theme I'm looking for. edit: Update a few hours later; Wow, I've never gone so quickly from thinking a band is OK to thinking they're aggravating before. I think ATR is best absorbed one song at a time on Youtube than like, actually listening to an album in full. sharts fucked around with this message at 19:07 on Oct 2, 2012 |

Yeah, I find them extremely aggravating. The reason I suggested them is that they sort of spawned their own subgenre of really low-fi grindcore influenced semi-political industrial stuff. So if you're asking for Industrial influenced music that has more Hardcore punk style stuff you're going to get suggested a lot of ATR/Alec Empire kind of things.

And i'm sorry about the vocal sample bit but it's already reached full dubstep penetration While not what I was looking for either, these tracks were also quite fun to listen to. I think I'm going to just have to stick with d&b for a while -- I kind of view dubstep as d&b's lazy stoner brother but the crossover saturation hasn't become prevalent enough to really prove me right. Oh well!

I'm not positive you'll enjoy these, but here's some good examples of "darker" electronica that come to mind (I also enjoy Burial and James Blake): Kode9 and the Spaceape - Memories of the Future https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PENB0f5bcpM The Knife - Silent Shout https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d56LCOThdzM Nicolas Jaar - Space Is Only Noise https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1huCn-5kY2k Flying Lotus - Los Angeles https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GKk9_V2l_TE and if you haven't gotten to it already, you'll likely enjoy trip hop, especially Massive Attack's Mezzanine, anything by Portishead, and Tricky's Maxinquaye and Angels with Dirty Faces. On my end, I'm looking for modern-post punk in the vein of Women's Public Strain and Soft Moon's self-titled album. I'm well aware of all the "post-punk-revival" bands on Wikipedia. Any suggestions welcome!

A really nice collection that I'd say it does a good job of avoiding some of the utter cheese that a lot of Italo stuff can be. Basically what people now think of as Italo-Disco. ZYX keep on doing their ZYX Italo-Disco Collection series. I think they're into double figures by now. A bit of a mixed bag though, at least the ones I've heard - quantity not quality in this case. Some really good tracks, some utter shite. Like I said people now have an image of that sleek, robotic Italo stuff, but a lot of it is more like Hi-NRG, and can be pretty cringe-worthy and badly dated nowadays. It's all mostly Italo stuff with the odd German thing or whatever sneaking in there, probably from the ZYX back catalogue as they really sold that stuff way back when, pushing the original Italo stuff via their Best of Italo-Disco collection and their own productions. Harmless also did a couple of Euro Disco editions of their Disco Discharge series. I've not heard them but I'd be shocked if they weren't full of Italo stuff. I've really liked some of the other comps in the series so if they're half as good as them you should be cushty.

So I've been trying to find some bands that are a lot like Small Brown Bike and Casket Lottery. Most of the other bands that people suggest to me like Hot Water Music, Dillinger Four, and Boy Sets Fire just don't have that same kind of feel/musicianship and singing that i really enjoy that Small Brown Bike and Casket Lottery has. If you guys can give me recommendations that would be awesome.

So I'm pretty strongly into punk. I enjoy many bands that are well known; Bad Religion, Face to face, Fugazi, Quicksand, Black Flag, Minutemen, Social Distortion, Converge, Propagandhi, hosed Up,Vandals Gorilla Biscuits, Rancid, etc. Any Punk recommendations? I enjoy punk with a strong sense of hooks and melody that doesn't feel like it's pandering. Please don't reccommend green Day or Offspring.
