Most of the time it just seems that the artist uses the chiptunes as a lovely gimmick for mediocre music. Like they sat down and thought they were going to make something that is chiptunes and they shoehorn themselves into the genre instead of making something original that doesn't sound like ill fitting noises awkwardly slapped on top of overused chiptune sounds. A little bit late on this, but I think I'm generally in the same boat as you, as far as enjoying video game music but meeting most chiptune with distaste. The one artist that was different from me was an0va. He makes chiptune music with the sensibilities of math rock, one of my favorite styles. It's my first post is this thread so if I'm doing something very wrong please let me know, but I've read the OP. I'm a big fan of heavy accents in rock. Particularly Scottish , I love Biffy Clyro, Twin Atlantic and Sucioperro. I'm basically looking for more artists in a similar vain to satisfy my accent 'fetish'. Also while I'm here I'd like to get into some electronic music but I've only really listed to Deadmau5 and LCD Soundsystem so where should I start? Thanks

I'm honestly more interested in the vocals than anything else. I think the only time I ever care about the rest is if it's an instrumental track, which is kind of a shame but I can't help it. Aaaah, now we're talking! Hope you're still checking out this thread, because I got some recommendations for ya First, check out the now-defunct band PMtoday, they should be right up your alley: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EvP9jOpaDzA Next, Closure in Moscow should also work for you: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pi08y-A39S0 Anthony Green's vocals should also hit the spot: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YhLm4JgXd5Q Sleeping in Sirens are pretty huge right now (skip to 1:25): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7HjBq9aZ9cw ...and their lead singer is featured on this track from Pierce the Veil (also skip to 0:58): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=icXUkIfZxyg Last one is Secret and Whisper: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jfOeFRu9-GU Enjoy EDIT: Oh, and Craig Owens actually had another side project called Isles & Glaciers which you'd probably like, too!

You could also check out a bunch of other Scottish musicians like Frightened Rabbit or if you can tolerate twee/pop Belle&Sebastian, Camera Obscura, Betty and the Werewolves, Ballboy and so on for great bands with a variety in how pronounced their accents are. If you want Irish accents you can go bad pop punk with Flogging Molly and the Dropkick Murphys. Try Fight Like Apes too if you can tolerate an experimental punkish sound. Also I'm not sure on the accent, but the girl from Life Without Buildings has the most unique sounding voice I've heard.

I'm unsure what exactly I'm looking for but I'd appreciate if somebody could recommend some harder dance music? Though I'm unsure what constitutes hard or what, I know the kind of tempo I dig. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m3pagMmL8sY https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m3jj2wq76Sk https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pknMCI9pxtM https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=28ssuOkDZ7M https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e-a7CmCJHQ0 I've listened to quite a lot of the Thunderdome mixes but it gets to sounding a little samey after a time, I'd like something a little more modern. I don't mind Happy Hardcore but it's not really bassy or that fiddly though on the other hand I'm not that much into minimal stuff as, it's a little minimal (regis is pretty good though). Even if you could point me in the direction of the right thread that'd be swell.

I basically listen to them and QotSA almost exclusively when I listen to rock. Having said that here are some things you can try. You probably know them already, but... Queens of the Stone Age: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DcHKOC64KnE and Black Keys (some of the time): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZQJA330yZV0&t=29s And sometimes Arctic Monkeys get pretty dirty as well: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t2cFvzmqmwc Other than that I would suggest: The Morning After Girls: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m2BLen6DHuA The Walkmen (sometimes, sometimes not): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aWR1h-5EzUo Tapes n' Tapes have some golden stuff but you might have to dig a bit there: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WcFnteqM_V0&t=94s Same thing with Dirty on Purpose: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bz0bSrrhnsQ Detroit Social Club would be a decent suggestion but I can't find anything that isn't terrible quality. Check out 'Universe' or 'Sunshine people' if you get a chance. Some of Interpol's stuff: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LNBJSei0XV0 (On the same note: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O1aoW6nPUrc) Some of Silversun Pickup's stuff: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZihZAez5w0M or https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8oyfFAFcefk Depending on how you feel about female singers, Sweethead...: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h7sec2mpTSM ... and Yeah Yeah Yeahs: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XNKSuGVd7Tc Some of Jack White's stuff is pretty dirty too: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7OyytKqYjkE I feel like I want this on the list as well, Wolfmother: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uAShx8scZe8 ...And Stone Temple Pilots' album Shangri-La Dee Da: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IXXPymJi3UA Okay I think maybe I took a few too much, guess I might as well mention Them Crooked Vultures now as well.
