This could mean that this could be a potential ashes team.

Warner
Cowan
Hughes
Watson
Clarke (c)
Haddin (vc)
Wade
Starc
Siddle
Lyon
Bird

That would be the best series, even better if Johnson was in.

This seems likely.

Warner and Cowan, I'd contest, are still good openers that should hopefully get some more seasoning in their roles after playing in India.
Watson is of course pretty hit and miss, but if he's fit for the Ashes maybe he'll get back into another bout of getting out in the 90s, which I'd be OK with.
Clarke is very solid.
Haddin is a oval office and should be replaced with Tim Paine. He's the only one on this list I really take issue with.
Wade should also be replaced, ideally by an up-and-comer from the state comp. Paine would be fine behind the wickets. With that said, he's done OK against SL. It'll be interesting to see how he handles India at home.
In terms of bowling attacks, I can think of worse options that Starc/Siddle/Lyon/Bird. Throw in Hilfy and Cummins if he's fit in time and that's a solid side.

Ridiculous comments. You guys have such incredibly short memories. Haddin is still one of the classiest batsmen in the world, and a fine keeper. He IS the best keeper batsman in the world, better than Prior, Wade or Dhoni, in all forms of the game. Just look at his stats.

Lolwut. Bold the whole thing. The guy has 3 ton's from 43 tests. He never seemed to have the ability to assess the situation correctly. And he's 35. He is a better keeper than Wade though, so having him as a specialist batsman is even more ridiculous.

The thing with Haddin is that he was loving atrocious with the gloves prior to getting dropped. Not as bad as Wade has been this summer but pretty bad. I'd rather see Chris Hartley picked.

What about Pattinson?

The only bright spo in any Ashes talk is the bowling line up for Australia and the reserves list is pretty good - Harris, Cummings, Pattinson, Bird, Starc, Siddle, Hilfenhaus to start with and a few others like McDermott who are just as good or better. IF Aust can hold a bowling attack together, most of them know how to swing a ball and are accurate.

Lyon really needs to get better fast tho. He's got potential but he bowls too fast and aims to contain, rather than tryig to spin the ball. Frankly we're better off just going with a four prong pace attack - Bird, Pattinson, Harris and Siddle, Starc first in line to repalce any injured bowler. Cummings needs to have a year in FC

I tend to agree. The top 6 or 7 bowlers in the country would be quicks. Even the likes of Hazelwood I'd rather have than Lyon at present. He needs to throw it up more.

I was reading Watson is going to focus on batting so we could have this terrifying batting line up.

Cowan
Warner
Hughes
Clarke
Watson
Maxwell
Wade

Only one batsmen who can play spin bowling in the entire side.

Watson's mentally incapable of being a batsman only. All bowlers have to do is aim for his front leg and he's gone LBW or wait until he snaps in half. Again tho if he begins to score consistent 80's and 90's before hilariously getting ut, that's better than what the rest of FC batsmen have to offer.

Whta a terrible situation. Lyon's literally the best spinner in the country and he's poo poo, Tim Paine's the best keeper option but he cant bat as well as Wade so he's not going to get a chance, the batting all oveer the country is terrible and no one other than Clarke has a clue how to play spin.

At present he is simply not good enough as a batsman to hold his place. Maxwell is also a bit of a plonker but if they must play him it would allow the selectors to play four quicks.

foolish_fool
Jul 22, 2010
We should play 5 quicks every match. Lyon isn't that great, Clarke can bowl himself if he really feels they need a dodgey spin option. A 5th quick is going to bring more value to the team than Haddin or whoever our next mediocre batting option is.

We need a Colin Miller again - quite good pace bowler and more than handy offspinner.

This is a question for NZ goons specifically. I have heard two separate references to Auckland scoring 12 runs off 1 ball remaining this year (against ND?) but I cannot find anything about this incident online. Anyone know what match this could be referring to?

I watched this game live, and it was glorious.

It was a T20 game between Auckland and ND, Graeme Aldridge was the bowler and Andre Adams was the batsman. ND had set a tough total, and Auckland gave it a good chase but looked to be about 10 short. I was in the process of finding the remote to change the channel with Auckland needing 12 off 1 ball, when Aldridge bowled an absolute shocker high fulltoss which Adams edged down to third man for 4. At the time noballs were worth 2 runs (this was prior to the free hit rule), so it suddenly became 6 needed from 1 ball. Adams absolutely smoked it high over long-off and much laughs were had at Graeme Aldridge's expense. As someone mentioned they played the clip on The Cricket Show a week or so ago, maybe check the Sky guide for replays.
