There is no "Recommended" section anymore. There's a Top 10 that surfaces every once in a while, but mine are always somewhere in the three-and-a-half range, so who knows.

I watched Silent House earlier and I just really wish that I hadn't. Other than the fun with editing to make it look like a single continuous shot, there's not much to enjoy really.

Well drat looks like I was wrong about that.

I guess it was thinking about the "because you watched this" lists, which I don't like. Just because I put on Barbarella doesn't mean I want to watch everything else like it. Also, why is there a Spongebob Squarepants movie in that list wth

Does Netflix continue to absolutely dominate for streaming? I'm probably going to renew my subscription after a 4-year lapse, but man does that Amazon Prime membership look nice too.

Only emojis can express my pure, simple stupidity.

You might as well have both to be honest. Amazon prime is $79 or thereabouts and you get the 2 day shipping. Then just go to the amazon prime sharing thread and sell the 3 spots for $15 each and get a lot of yor money back (you can share amazon primer with up to 3 others, or 4 I forgot. Only the primary holder gets the streaming benefits)

Headhunters is well made and quite fun, minus some soapy emotional parts and technobabble. It's like a Coen brothers movie with a lot more gruesome special effects. Acting is good, plot is a thrill a minute and quite a few surprising turns.

It probably depends on what you want to watch. I would look at what each service offers and go from there.

I forgot sharing was a thing with Prime. That's solidly in the "why the heck not" range. Thanks!

Amazon Prime and Netflix are both great. Really the only service I tried but ended up canceling was Hulu Plus. It was nice to have access to so many Criterion Collection films, but beyond those the selection for movies is hit or miss, and annoyingly they still have commercials. Not worth the $9 a month IMHO.

I felt the same way - oddly many of the Criterion films are available through regular Hulu anyway. The most damning thing is the commercials, if I am paying for the service you drat well not be showing commercials during a movie.

Not during Criterion that I noticed but it was definitely happening for other movies which is insane to me.

The trial for students used to be a year rather than a month, IIRC.

I like Hulu for the availability of new shows. I never know what's available on Plus or Regular, but I only pay 7 bucks a month, it's hardly anything to fret over.

Is that there in the browser version? I see "Because you watched…" and my Top 10 (which for some reason contains two things I've already rated), but no dedicated Suggestions section.

Criterion film don't get ads. It was part of the negotiations that brought them over to Hulu. Any other movie on there gets ad breaks.

No I only see top 10 on the website but the "suggestions" queue on my AppleTV is definitely longer than 10. I remember a similar feed on the XBox netflix app. Maybe it's only exposed on dedicated clients? Netflix's web strategy has never made any goddamn sense.

Everything you see is a recommendation for you - their catalog is much bigger than the list of stuff you see there. The recommendations will start out super generic but the more you watch/rate the more specific for you it gets.

Also you should go on the website and click the header that says 'Personalize' or whatever and tell Netflix how often you watch Sappy Fetish Comedies Starring Strong Female Leads or whatever.

For me, it let me renew at $40 a total of three times (I think)...then it said "Sorry, you are no longer eligible for the student rate as you have renewed 3 times".

I guess what I'm saying is, Amazon hates Doctors.

This may have been available for a while, but I just happened to notice that Lights Out is available on Netflix. It only made it one season, but it was one of my favorite series' from the past few years...

FX's gritty drama follows Patrick "Lights" Leary, a retired boxer who's suffered too many punches to the head. As much as he'd like to stay out of the ring, Leary may have to don the gloves again to support his family after landing in serious debt.

How reliable is the information on instantwatcher.com? I had a (probably irrational) impulse to check out Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood since it has been in my queue forever. But, even though instantwatcher says that it should be available from Mar 06, 2012 until the year 3000, it doesn't seem to be available.

I know for a fact I've seen it on there. Although Netflix didn't realize that the first two seasons are a remake of the original show, so it assumes that the original FMA is seasons one and two, and Brotherhood only begins at season 3.

I know it was up until sometime pretty recently. Though for some reason they only had the first 3 parts, so you had to get the last 2 on disc anyway.

Star Trek: The Motion Picture is a boring movie
A few pages back people recommended and discussed The West Wing. I started it and I'm definitely impressed. Not sure why I didn't watch it on NBC when it aired. I was completely blown away by the season 2 finale. The church scene where Bartlet walked down the aisle cursing God in Latin was amazing and executed perfectly. It's the ultimate Sorkin walk-and-talk scene.
