Wow, "hommen" is a good illustration of how MRAs and their ilk really can't do anything but ape the rhetoric of feminism and social justice. "Oh, I have male privilege? Yeah, well you have female privilege! How do you like that? Huh? HUH?" This goes along with the "calling me a homophobe is oppression!" crowd. It's loving disgusting, but I guess it's what you get when outright saying "We should oppress people" becomes slightly less fashionable: you just cloak your oppressive homophobia and misogyny in the skins of movements that have opposed these things, which attempts both to delegitimize their rhetorical tools and muddy the waters among the "truth is in the middle" crowd.

Either they're aping 'Anonymous' or it's some "we represent every faceless voiceless child" thing. In some other pics I see of them protesting this, they have cloth gags in their mouths too, so it wouldn't surprise me if it was meant to be symbolic. I'm sure they spend an equal amount of time protesting all the faceless voiceless gay people who commit suicide and stuff too, though :jerkbag:

They know that for all their rhetoric about standing for a silent majority they don't actually have that much support in the general population, especially now that the law's been adopted.

The ruling is eventually cited as a major cause of the Second Civil War, as it draws Gaybraham Lincoln out of private life and back into politics.

SCOTUSblog is expecting opinions on June 13th, June 17th and June 24th. There's also the possibility of additional decisions being announced on June 20th. Following today's opinions, there are still 23 cases yet to be decided.

VVV Releasing opinions on Mondays is traditional, and towards the end of the session it's not uncommon to see opinions on Thursdays as well, when the Court also meets in conference to vote/consider new cases.

Definitely. It's pretty striking in comparison to the FEMEN activists who don't hide their identities at all, even in countries where protesting topless means actually facing a judge. It goes to show how most of the opponents of same-sex marriage are privileged enough to be able to just walk away from it when they want, with no consequences to themselves. And of course they deny having any responsibilty when someone eventually gets hurt or killed because of their toxic bullshit.

In the US someone can spit on or even near a cop at a protest and get hauled off on assault charges. An actual physical attack like that gets you hauled off on an assault charge with a couple of minor cuts, abrasions and bruises from a rough arrest and most likely resisting charges to boot. Are the French more lenient in general or is this entirely because they're white and rich instead of just partially.

Yeah, I'm having a hard time picturing how any cop on crowd control duty would just be like "whoa, he kicked me, what do I do?!? I guess nothing." No matter how Suit-y and white the person doing the kicking was.

Knowing government employees, though, it's just as possible he had a pallet of Bic Round Stics forklifted in from the Pentagon as soon as Clinton was lame-ducked, and was only 1/4 of the way through when he left. The rest went to the dump unused.

I see it as caution rather than leniency. The cops are playing the waiting game because there aren't that many of them compared to the crowd there, and it isn't really rowdy (France may have different standards for that, I'll admit :v: what I mean is that they're not throwing poo poo at the cops), so grabbing the guy was probably not a good idea at that point. I do think US cops have a tendency to be overly aggressive towards protesters and escalate situations that could be defused fairly easily, possibly because they're less used to illegal protests than French police. That's not too say French cops are perfect or anything, of course, they certainly don't hesitate to snatch people if they have the numbers on their side, same as everywhere I imagine. If I'm not mistaken later during that protest a guy tried to light a fire and then threw some lighter fuel in the face of a police commissioner. Needless to say he was arrested on the spot, crowd or not (full disclosure: it was a black guy, but as OMGVBFLOL said it'd be the same if he was white).

If you're interested, here you can see how they behave against an actually hostile crowd:Linking it because integration is disabled

Basically they keep the rioters at bay until reinforcements arrive, then they go out and charge and make arrests (and you can see they're not being kind about it). Especially check out the man in a red pullover and brown jacket riling up the others at 7:15, around 9:15 they go out and arrest him when there are less rioters. Also at the very end there's footage of cops trying to prevent the cameraman from filming a rough arrest.

No SSM ruling today. The Court is scheduled to release rulings on June 17th or the 24th, but may add more dates. This seems likely, as the Court only issued four opinions today, with (I think) nineteen more to go. In addition to the SSM cases, the Court has three other major cases undecided involving the VRA, Affirmative Action and a question about the scope of Native American courts.
