UK House of Parliament debate on the potential of an invasion of Syria? A difficult global political situation in which any mis-step will result in thousands of deaths (and even the 'best answer' will still result in suffering)? Time for some bravado and facebook stupidity. Key points: - Government doesn't need a vote to go to war - the queen can rubber stamp it. - We don't want politicians deciding who to invade. We need autonomous agents doing it instead. - Snipers rule.

This one's about a woman that was the secretary (she'd press the "administrative assistant" title on us quite a bit) at my workplace. She's a military wife with very little education and an obsession with the "urban" lifestyle, to put it bluntly. She has a massive tendency to air every bit of dirty laundry about the relationship she has with her husband, and constantly throws different flavored macros up depending on how her relationship is going each day. It's fascinating, yet irritating. Here's a taste. She's one of those people that likes to change her relationship status quite often. When things aren't going well, she throws up the classiest of macros. This one cracks me up, considering the content of the macro. ...and sometimes she slips into gangsta mode for some reason. She's extremely white, married to a normal white E-6 in the Army. The entire family screams white. It gets so bad I feel compelled to call her on it. Now, I know there are plenty of people out there that were brought up with very little understanding of the English language, and where it's normal for them to speak in broken English like that. I know that it's a symptom of a societal issue. What I can't understand is why someone would want to emulate ignorance. I'm probably coming off as some kind of rear end in a top hat for posting this mess, but I found it fitting to the thread's purpose. Apologies if I offended anyone.

I think this is one of those weird distinction things. Like in principle government can't form without royal ascent, but if the Queen actually stopped the party who can form government from doing so, she'd be out on her arse. We might need the Royal OK to go to war, but the PM can't just skip parliamentary approval.

Are you people serious? The Queen has a purely ceremonial role. The queen "invites" the party that won the election to form a goverment, and "signs off on" decisions like going to war. This is a matter of protocol, not of her actual involvement. Think of the Queen as a ceremonial hat: when you become Prime Minister, you put on the Hat. This does not imply that anyone actually gives a poo poo what the hat thinks. If you lost the hat, you would probably manage to struggle on regardless.
