It's a screenshot from the App Store as it was presented. The logic being that the screenshots blockchain.info provided would have been intended to fool the reviewers. The screenshot meshes with other comments I found from around this timeframe of users being disappointed that it was read-only, and then subsequently finding the next day that all the features had been added back in. This is actually the second time the app has been banned from the store for the same reason.

Who gives a gently caress if you favourite business isn't taking bitcoin, gently caress 'em.

We're the above average income, tech savvy, 18-49 year olds.

No doubt, bitcoin has growing pains. The faster we deal with these, the more viable a currency it will become. We must support bitcoin businesses, buy your bags from them, order your food or clothing from them. Buy your gifts with them. We have this sentiment that the masses will make the transition for us. This is not going to happen or be very efficient at least. We need to make a strong and all inclusive bitcoin economy.

We've got to empower those that accept it and boycott those that don't. Boycotting Apple is good but it's a start. It's not that hard, Ghandi didn't eat for a month, so switching to a currency which has only minor austere impacts which are temporary is nothing.

I'm not telling you to go hungry, if you've got to buy in fiat then you've got to buy in fiat but ask your grocer if they can setup a bitcoin payment system.

Not only is bitcoin deflationary in nature but it grows stronger by more use. You remember that 10,000 bitcoin pizza, that is what set off the currency for the first time. Think of what silk road did to the bitcoin economy, it got things moving, businesses do not need to be conducting in illegal activity to get things moving in a much bigger way if we are focused.

This goes for the guy that buys a little bit of bitcoin out of their paycheque and the students trying to get by to the 100,000btc whales.

Suggestion for the app store version - leave the functionality in, but disabled through a hidden setting, via a configuration file on the sd card or something so its easy to hack. I have friends who refuse to jailbreak their devices and want to get them to install this... I'll never understand why people would use a product where the manufacturer actively tries to control what you can do with it. Whats the incentive for apple to limit apps anyway?...

May 09, 2012, 09:49:10 AM

Apple removed the app from the iTunes store last night, no explanation given:

Quote
Dear Qkos Services Ltd,
The status for the following app has changed to Removed From Sale.

App Name: Blockchain
App Version Number: 1.9.2
App SKU: v1
App Apple ID:493253309
To make changes to this app, sign in to iTunes Connect and open the Manage Your Applications module.

If you have any questions regarding your app, click Contact Us in iTunes Connect.

Regards,

The iTunes Store Team

--

May 09, 2012, 06:24:29 PM

I called apple and they said it was removed due to violating App Store View Guideline 22.1, which is:

Quote
Apps must comply with all legal requirements in any location where they are made available to users. It is the developer's obligation to understand and conform to all local laws

Initially the guy thought the app was for gambling, not sure why. But anyway he just told me i need to contact the legal department for an exact explanation of what laws it violates.

--

May 27, 2012, 01:31:57 AM

Any information on what it will take to get this app back in the official app store?

--

May 27, 2012, 02:19:56 AM

A "fixed" version that gives Apple 20% in fees.

--

Paypal has an Iphone app, and they don't pay Apple a royalty.
I don't see why Bitcoin apps wouldn't be allowed when Paypal is.

--

May 27, 2012, 09:45:39 AM

I'ld like to see some bitcoin app become so popular where hundreds of thousands of iPhone users go to jailbreak because the app isn't allowed on the App Store. Apple might rethink their strategy then. Maybe SatoshiDICE or something like that ends up being the driver to cause that to happen.

There's always the FTC AntiTrust laws -- maybe Apple is doing this to keep competition for their payments system at bay.

Looks like Apple is getting a little heat for their policy:

Flattr: we’re victims of an ‘app dictatorship’

Quote
It’s like a jury that judges you but doesn’t explain why,” he said. “It’s an app dictatorship, or a monopoly. The problem is that we’re centralizing all of our communications… big corporates say they want a free market, but they really want to lock people up. It’s not just Apple: Google is going this way, Facebook is definitely going this way.”

Duh: Apple doesn’t want Flattr money flowing through its apps if it can’t take a cut

Quote
This has to do with the fact that using the very disruptive service Flattr, apps can process micro-payments without Apple’s involvement. Basically, Apple isn’t getting a cut of the action.

Quote
The following point in their App Store Review Guidelines:

There was one clue given, that might be useful as a workaround for this app.

21.2 The collection of donations must be done via a web site in Safari or an SMS

So ya, why not. Have the app create the script and route that out through using SMS. (i.e., the app can function with network connectivity turned off, so you prove the app isn't performing the transaction). Unless that violates the spirit of their policy and they would reject it on that grounds, who knows.

I wonder what the difference is though between an app that uses Flattr and an app that uses PayPal, as far as being used to transfer funds from one person to another.

What many people really don't get yet is Bitcoin/Litecoin are the worlds first, very liquid, average persons, commodity/asset of exchange, that doesn't need any governments or banks to exist and it's impact on the lives of the average person will be way bigger then the internet.

..new universal and local exchanges must marry BTC/LTC ( which is really a form of an asset not a currency or money ) with gold/silver/commodities It will lead to a grand new world reserve liquid trading commodity vehicle (not currency ) ... and eliminate ALL potential regulation problems with bitcoin/Litecoin being equated to one, or any fiat government currency!!!!!

If he was at the CFR instead of Gavin, he'd scare the poo poo out of those people.

[–]andreasma 24 points 7 hours ago

Maybe they need to be scared. Maybe that's why I don't get invited and I refuse to attend meetings with the kleptocrats.

[–]sendaiboy 14 points 7 hours ago

Yea, listening to Andreas reading the riot act to their faces would squarely put crypto on their radars... and we don't need that kind of attention yet.

Gavin (and I really don't mean this as a left-handed compliment) did exactly what was needed. He made bitcoin sound inconsequential and boring - and I'm pretty sure that was by design. That and the current price drop should make them lose interest for awhile.

[–]toddgak 11 points 7 hours ago

I think Andreas is doing the right thing by shifting the narrative away from the currency portion of Bitcoin and more towards the innovative potential of the technology.

The critics have confused bitcoin the currency with Bitcoin the innovation. When I hear Joe Smith guy on the street parroting something about tulips it just makes me realize how much we've failed in communicating the significance of this innovation.

[–]new_to_coinz 8 points 6 hours ago

I think it is safe to say that Andreas turned me into a Bitcoin supporter. He has that no bull poo poo tone, and tells it like how it is.

[–]bitcoin-and-booze 4 points 4 hours ago*

This whole economy is a farce. This video eloquently sums up my thoughts exactly. Rent seeking banking cartel. They create nothing of value. They prey on others to remain in existence. I liquidated my entire stock portfolio this week. I'm now building a short position in XLF (financial ETF) , accumulating GLD, and holding a little bitcoin and physical cash. Thats it. Oh, and a few years worth stockpile of my favorite alcoholic beverages ;). I'm sticking with this plan and adding weekly to my positions until retirement.
