It costs money (a flat fee for entering the customization at all), but such a tiny amount that if you're not making several times that every 5 minutes within about 15 minutes of the game opening up you screwed up considerably.

It's like someone took a clunky PS2 shooter, went into the gameplay config files, and turned every number up to 11. The controls are physics are terrible but you get to shoot an army of spiders the size of a semi trucks with a rocket launcher that blows up the entire block and launches their corpses halfway across the city.

Also, WAY more goons need to get on some Perfect Dark. I'm really hoping it becomes one of the Games with Gold soon, so we'll have a ton of people with it. You can't lament the lack of GoldenEye64 and not play Perfect Dark.

It's a game where you blow up giant insects and robots with Havok physics, there's no penalty for destroying anything, you can call in satellite laser strikes, get raildriver tanks airdropped, get a fully automatic sticky-bomb gun, and run around in a suit of four-gunned power armor.

Yes. Yes it is good.

Earth Defense Force is goooooooooood.

It's the rare game where you can tell it was on a strict budget but you can also tell they spent it all in the absolute most perfect places. It's like someone took a NES developer and had them design the game they thought we'd be playing right now. There's basically only three things to it: an insane number of weapons, an insane number of bugs, destructible buildings. And the buildings aren't even THAT impressive. That's all they spent their money on and it shows in both good and bad ways.

tldr - if you can survive without some modern frills, can appreciate japanese monster-campiness, and enjoy shooting ants in the face: Buy EDF.

I think you're describing EDF:2027, but the sale is for EDF:2017. But really the only thing I think that's missing in 2017 is the 4 armed power armor.

Oh poo poo, well then just buy that immediately. The description still stands but they made everything just a bit better in 2025.

Edit: Is there still a version of Watch Dogs coming for 360? The onion AV club article makes it sound like the non-gameplay bits are exactly the kind of thing I've sworn off in games. Particularly this bit...

quote:

The delight of these rare intellectual challenges is matched by the slow, dispiriting realization that Watch Dogs is strapping you in for the same ride that countless games in this genre have offered before. The hero is another stubbly, white-skinned guy with another hot chick coaching him in his earpiece. Tiresome cutscenes play out another “they killed my woman!” plot driven by a dude’s thirst for revenge. The missions? Even with the hacking bits, they’re largely limited to the same vocabulary that Grand Theft Auto and Splinter Cell standardized long ago: Go here, shoot this, sneak past that. Again and again, when the makers of Watch Dogs could have made a creative choice, they instead settled for the default option.

If there's anything I hate the most about the last generation, it's this. Brooding hero, vaguely attractive nerd girl on his bluetooth, dead family members, revenge. I no longer give a flying gently caress about the rest of the game I am not sitting through that poo poo for the hundredth time.

Although this sounds pretty hilarious:

quote:

At the beginning of one mission to find and rough up a gang leader, Pearce sneers the standard line, “I think I’ll pay this guy a little visit.” Then he adds, in case you didn’t catch his drift, “I don’t think he’ll like my visit, but it’ll give him something to think about in the hospital.” Later, in the midst of a shootout, a thug cries, “This can only end one way, shitface!” Then he helpfully explains: “And it’s not a happy ending for ya! Okay?!”

Yes, it's for sale on the front page if you turn on your XBox right now.

It's an interesting game. The protagonist is very much a goony autist, the "criminal profiles" all seem to only involve black people, and the driving is uhh, on the level of Mercenaries 1 or 2?

But I'm digging it, just wandering around snatching ATM PINs from cancer patients and listening to people talk about sending their underage daughter to pole-dancing lessons. A lot of the mechanics are kind of poorly explained and the music is uhh, only poo poo from Illinois and nearby areas, which I guess is cool but extremely limited. After playing Assassin's Creed so much, it's bizarre to have a sprint button that's not connected to the free-climb button in an Ubi game.

They're not ALL bad, most are just regular. Although it's weird how you can't hack every NPC with a sex offendor registry entry, etc. It seems to be almost entirely random (although I assume there are a few static NPCs who always start with the same stats, desc, etc.)

Running from the cops is really frustrating in the early game because it's actually pretty tough to lose them, even using your hacks to cause traffic accidents at stoplights and poo poo. It's tougher than I expected on Normal, combat-wise, as well - you kind of need to have a plan of attack most of the time.

Stealth works pretty well although it's tough to escape detection and try again without reloading. I like setting off people's phones, opening nearby doors and blowing up transformers and poo poo.

I thought what was happening there is that he's trying to sneak into a mission target and the game wants him to go through stealing the access card as intended rather than cheating. Which is boring mission design but not really a glitch, nor is WD unique in doing it.
