i met an autistic in real life once. I immediately fell to the ground clutching my sides as the laughter overtook me. I hit the pavement so quickly my knees were torn open and my blood spilled onto the sidewalk as I rolled around, consumed by guffaws.

In all seriousness it seems there were many brilliant, successful people who likely had autism. They tend to be very focused on what interests them, and when that is combined with intelligence or talent, they can go far.

A man rushed to my assistance, lifting my contorting form partway off the ground and asked if I was alright. The only word that could escape my near-breathless lungs was "Sonic" as I pointed at the mentally deficient child before going limp.

If they are passionate they have autism. If they have a hobby, they have autism. If they're weird, they have autism. If their mental faculties are deficient in some aspect or degree, they have autism. If they care about something, they have autism. There comes a point where this needs to stop and we have clearly passed it.

You asked your girlfriend for a toy (and not the special sort of grownup toys that it is actually ok to ask a girlfriend for if she's into that sort of thing). It doesn't necessarily make you an autist, but it does at least partially explain why she is now your ex.

As opposed to someone with balance in their life and emotional maturity? The regular dude who's into science but knows how to come home and relax and have a beer and screw his wife is going to live a lot longer than the autist who can barely talk to people, and he or she will end up doing a lot more genuine work.
