"Just 55 seconds later, Pelle Eklund, who had amassed all of 10 penalty minutes in 30 previous games this season, went off for high-sticking, and the Devils had a two-man advantage. They cashed in on the rebound of their first shot, John MacLean converting 1:05 into the game. Now the Flyers had to buckle down, stop worrying about sending messages and get back into it. Instead, Dimitri Yushkevich went off for high-sticking at 2:24, creating another five-on-three." Two 5 on 3s in the first couple minutes is so rare, that when coupled with a call 2 seconds in from a ref that is still trashing what a 19 year old did over two decades ago, it's tough to believe he didn't have an axe to grind.

Paulocaust posted:Also, again, that ref was almost certainly skimming money from those posters or not donating them at all. The real story is that it set up a tradition of Flyers players stealing memorabilia and destroying it just because they were a little bit grumpy.

That's not the Penguins' fault. The Penguins had a deal with Isle of Capri where if Pennsylvania gave Isle of Capri the Pittsburgh casino license, they would build the arena with 100% private money. Instead they gave the license to a guy who turned out to be broke.

The Steelers are one of the most popular teams in the most profitable sports league in the country and they got a 1% sales tax to fund their stadium. Governments across the country are stupid about sports teams.

His stock fell precipitously during the second half of the Q season because of injuries and rumors of poor off-ice conduct. Yeah he was basically supposed to be really talented but he just didn't act serious about trying to become a pro athlete and probably in the end wasn't really as talented as people thought he was. There are lots of guys who super awesome at stickhandling and poo poo but have no clue how to actually play hockey and he was one of them.

Winnipeg fans are weird. They all want to run Evander Kane out of town for "attitude problems" they all "hear about all the time" but applaud Chris Thorburn and Mark Stuart extensions, beg to sign Jordan Tootoo and pine for the days of The Glass-Slater-Thorburn line (GST! GST! GST!) Chevyldayoff pretty much consistently just makes trades for draft picks and like 4 waiver wire pick-ups per season while hoping the players they draft turn out to be homeruns. All this while sitting with the worst starting goalie in the NHL for every year of the teams existence. He's not a terrible GM, just a thoroughly mediocre one terrified to make a big move. He's never done a player-for-player trade since he's been on the job The Dirty Burger fucked around with this message at 20:09 on Jul 18, 2014 |
