No I'm talking about Abbott birthers, if that's what we're calling them now even though it's totally different from the campaign against Obama. The opposite, in fact. Abbott is a white man who everyone assumes is eligible to hold office because he is white. Any immigrant of colour who held dual citizenship wouldn't make it through preselection in his electorate, and Abbott is presiding over one of the most racist and violent refugee policies in our nations history and prolonging and exacerbating the genocidal Intervention.

Obama's camp refused to release the birth certificate because the campaign against him was loving racist. Is this Abbott situation about race, or about white privilege, racist hypocrisy and correct parliamentary procedure?

They did release his birth certificate? They held off releasing the long-form one, or something, on the basis that we've already shown you evidence, but ended up releasing that anyway.

So now we're importing birtherism. Thanks, Obama!

For example, the Coronation Hotel is building a whole new bar on the second level of the venue to take advantage of the hotel bar exclusion (to qualify the bar must not be visible from the street). They have been hit hard by the lockouts, shifts cut and staff cut. This is a venue that has always had tight security and no trouble. It's a little silly. The late nightlife is a joke at the moment. Surely a more focused attempt could be made.

Assaults in Newtown have surely skyrocketed. I went to a concert at the Enmore that was completely hosed because it wasn't sold out, so we got the general public buying tickets and wandering in. Worst crowd I've ever been to, worse even than lovely festivals. RIP Newtown.

The promo mentions new sexual harassment claims, that doesn't sound like it will recant the allegations any further. Hopefully some decent journalism fixture will watch the program and provide a summary so I wont have to watch 60 Minutes.

I think it's entirely possible he has dual citizenship, but that they can't do the simple thing because he's proud of his English citizenship, the massive Anglophile he is, and doesn't actually want to renounce it. Therefore the only thing Peta can do is just the dismissive wave of the hand and try to direct people on to other things.

Potential outcomes of Citizenshipgate: 1. Irrefutable evidence arises that Tony never got around to renouncing his citizenship. 1a. ASIO arrest the PM and move him to a secure location for enhanced questioning. Deputy PM Warren Truss steps up to the plate. 1b. The Supreme Court rules that he needs to give up his British citizenship. 1b-i. Tony holds a press conference wherein he pricks his finger, drips blood on his British passport and burns it, announcing "As burns this passport, so will burn my soul. I enter alive and I will have to get out dead." He is flicked with water from a wattle branch and handed a can of VB. The ritual complete, he returns to thinking of new ways to torment asylum seekers. 1b-ii. A defiant Tony declares "And I would have gotten away with it too, if it weren't for you meddling kids! Rule Britannia! You'll never take me alive!" One thrilling hydrofoil chase around Lake Burley-Griffin later, the PM disappears in an explosion, but no trace of his body is found. Deputy PM Warren Truss steps up to the plate. 2. No evidence comes forth, fuelling speculation further. 2a. The uncertainty of the PM's citizenship and public enthusiasm about this obscure law creates a groundswell of interest in the political system. Within weeks there is a peaceful revolution, full communism is instituted, it doesn't work this time either, things revert to normal, and either Tony returns to power or some other reptilian is sworn in as PM. 2b. Like Obama before him, the PM uses it to paint his critics as nutjobs and distract the press. 2b-i. People keep posting about it. The thread spirals downwards until we are frothing about unlawful/illegal admiralty courts. 2b-ii. People realise how dumb it is and stop posting about it. A glorious renaissance of quality posts begins, swiftly degenerating into grids and bike helmets.

Is there any new credit cards that DON'T come with Pay Wave? I had to get a new physical card, and was most displeased that apparently ALL new credit cards come with it, you can't disable it, and you can't raise or lower the amount it can do each day. I'm happy for the tech to exist, but I don't want to be forced to use it.
