Manga usually try to close a chapter with a hook, but Kubo has relied very heavily on sudden character appearances and power-ups in that role for Bleach's entire run.

So, anyone remember how Ichigo was constantly criticized because he could only use his mask for like 5 seconds at a time while the rest of the vaizards could do so for much longer? Then it turned out that meant they could keep them out for a while if they were just chilling and not fighting, so only Mashiro could really use hers at all. I'm guessing all the vaizards simply became more genre-savvy, and realized that their dumb masks wouldn't make any difference so they shouldn't even bother.

I hope Kubo continues to give us amazing reaction faces instead of diagonal slashes. I'm so glad I'm alone in the office today because Pepe's face got a big reaction from me. I think I'd be ok with Mayuri just co-opting all this Quincy bullshit and becoming the villain through his zombification blood.

Kubo does seem to be trying to move things along at a reasonable pace, otherwise I'm pretty sure he would have shown jobber zombie captains vs zombie arrancar for 5 chapters.

It almost seemed promising for a time but these last few chapters have seen the Sternritter getting steamrolled more than ever. The situation is so favorable for the protagonists such that there isn't really any tension left. Lately it seems the Sternritter have to use their Vollstandig just to break even (And usually not even then.) Meanwhile I've lost track of how many Shinigami are holding on to one or more power ups. Under what circumstances are characters like Kyoraku or Urahara going to be forced to use their Bankai when Byakuya can beat three Sternritter without using his Shikai? What was the point of hinting that Pepe was dangerous and feared even among the Sternritter when he couldn't go one chapter without getting punched in the face? He even uses his trump card almost immediately! ..And it feels like there is no point to any of this since the real struggle has moved to the Soul King's Palace. On top of that, at least in the arc with Aizen, once he finally ran out of mooks he regained some of the momentum when he steamrolled everyone. But Yhwach has already left the building. And the character I most want to finally win a fight before the series ends went with Ichigo where the only opponents are people he will almost certainly job against.
