Probably, but I still think I missed the first appearance, because tarp-face was so unbelievably stupid that it made me stop watching immediately.

Cassandra Tarp-Face is probably the worst villain in New Who. I hate her even more than the Absorbing dude from Love and Monsters.

Wonka Wash spelled backwards.
Did you guys catch the fact that Cassandra was a transexual?
She mentions she used to be a young boy.

I get RTD was trying to be progressive, but saying that the kind of person who changed from a man to woman would eventually just transform into a giant skin sends the wrong message.

I completely forgot about that, it seems like a poorly considered throwaway joke rather than an attempt to make a serious comment on transexuality.

I'm afraid we have no time for codes and manners.
Zoe Wanamaker is great, Cassandra is meh. A nice, simple visual trick of a villain to provide an easy hook-in for young viewers for the early series but ultimately two-dimensional (:haw:).

This actually describes a lot of RTD's worst offenses, including the infamous blowjob, though (not that it would have been perfectly okay if they'd just kept the line, the "trapped forever in cement" thing is bad, but still). It feels like they needed to have someone around to say "The laughs you're going to get for that one aren't worth it, Rusty."

Sadly everyone was too scared of the giant to say it to his face.

Fuck the DH
I know someone who is 6'8 and finds RTD Who mostly unwatchable, so if only we had a TARDIS...

Anyhow, Cassandra certainly isn't the first or last time Doctor Who plays with "living forever isn't worth the cost" as an idea, I figured the point was that she was basically a Cosmic Racist. I mean, Nine tells Rose that "(humans) never consider the possibility that maybe you survive" and then Cassandra is wheeled in shortly after, which I guess some could be mistaken into thinking she was humanity's survival. But I think humanity just started loving space aliens at some point, and Cassandra refused to have a part of that.

Although by that point, her ex-husband she jokes about (if he exists) might be quite closely related to her. :gonk:

I actually re-watched the second cassandra episode like two days before the review of it in this thread completely accidentally, and totally disagreed with Occ's view of her as unsympathetic. I found her absolute narcissm to be super tragic. The most important thing to her to do before she dies is travel back in time to give her younger self a sincere compliment on her beauty while she's surrounded by a bunch of fawning yes-men and women, because the only thing she's ever really cared about is having other people think she's beautiful, and literally the only person who cares when she dies is herself. The doctor and rose just stare on impassively and then peace out, and the doctor mourns people way worse than her.

Also that action figure of Cassandra is in my top 5 most hilarious things I've seen.

Absolute poo poo first episode to show to a new viewer though, since its structure and narrative eschew so much of the traditional Who formula and warp the staples to slightly different ends.
