my posts are as bad the Current Releases review of Gone Girl

The weirdest thing about the FotNS movie is that the people who made it clearly cared about the actual source material, they just weren't able to execute it on anything resembling a competent level.

e: I just had a thought: How many animes have been Hollywood-ed into live action movies or shows? Edge of Tomorrow doesn't really count because that was a proper novel from what I understand, but I don't think I've every heard of another anime turned live-action (Yes, I know Kite is a thing, lets pretend that doesn't exist).

Aside from what's already mentioned, there's tons of stuff if you count Japanese live action projects or stalled Hollywood ones.

Would transformers count, as well? It kind of grew up on both sides of the pacific.

Edit: whoa I totally forgot they made a live action cromartie.

Edge of Tommorrow seems to be quite Light Novel-ish, although I don't know the strict publishing classifications. In an interview, the author said he was quite surprised when watching the live action movie because he had always imagined the characters as anime characters in his head. Yes, he wrote a book about anime characters.

Which should come as no surprise to anyone who's read the thing. That loving engineer girl :psyduck:

Did I just say that out loud~~?!!!
I thought that everyone who wrote a light novel imagined they were writing a novel about anime characters. Like that was entirely the point, with the illustrations and whatnot.

I know it's still the case with Nisio Isin, given that:

Gahara: After all, my seiyuu is excellent.
Arararagi: What is this, an anime!?

Was said in the LN BEFORE it became an anime.

I'm on my second read of All You Need Is Kill and it definitely has anime in mind, I didn't read the manga so I'm not sure how that went.
Kino no Tabi had the same feel too.

In the earlier books he made a lot of jokes about how it would never become an anime (because it was both too talky and too violent), and then in Nise he made a joke about how he couldn't make those jokes anymore.

Denki-Gai seems to be okay, but its gonna be kinda weird getting used to CR translating some people's nicknames differently than the scanlated chapters of the manga. Not sure why they chose to open with awkward humor about porn though, the episode's second half is a lot more representative of the manga's usual content.

The first segment was indeed not very funny, and close to turning me off from that thing. The second part was okay, and I'll give it a few more episodes.

Imagine how much more sad and lonely we would be if not for the hard work of lowtax. Here's $12.95 to his aid.
They chose the right Honya bookstore manga to make an anime out of. It's still just a plain and wanna-be-silly by-the-book slice-of-life cliche-filled yawner. Thankfully it's not offensively bad, sometimes has witty scenes, if the other series take the Cross Ange route it could be something to watch to maybe get a soft giggle out of.

This is my first time watching an actual Gundam series (thanks Build Fighters). From what I've seen so far, the show looks really charming! I haven't had a chance to sit down and watch the full episodes due to midterms though.

Well, you should anyway. It's got some great art and is really not as creepy as you might expect with that title. Aside from the kinda creepy initial premise it's pretty much clean, and really intriguing.

He doesn't hold your hand and just throws you into the story, but heck nine times out of ten I'll take that when the usual anime alternative is talking heads doing some dull infodumping about the setting.

Cool, thanks.

It takes on a retro filter that's hella Tomino, even takes on retro techniques with the cels, sometimes works against it and makes it look worse than it should. Story takes wild leaps and makes one wonder why and how, but I think it was the necessary things in order to get the necessary things done in the first two episodes. The rest, even the OP theme and OP itself are all thumbs up from me. It's a hugely positive surprise. No more space-drama-racepolitics of the strongest degree that not even TLoGH fans can stomach, instead something much easier to digest and get into, just these small bits that make you wonder "why did that happen, what kind of naive dimwits are these".
