Every time you go for a ride, that's 8 other bikes that are being left behind, quietly rusting into seizure. HTH.

I pay $62/mo for full comprehensive on my Tuono. I was paying $120/mo for my Daytona 675. Buy a tuono.

I've since acquired a 98 and a 99 VFR800 as well as a 96 CBR600F3, and a 95 (for parts CBR600).

Is that something that happens often or did you just get the albatross edition? Cause I really, really, really want a Daytona but at the slightest hint of britishery I know I'd just crumble and get a Japanese 600 instead.

Cause I really, really, really want a Daytona but at the slightest hint of britishery I know I'd just crumble and get a Japanese 600 instead. Spinning bearings was the common issue on the early (06-08) motors due to the case flexing and oiling issues. The 09+ motor had extra strengthening in the case casting, a new oil relief valve, a new waterpump/oil pump design, a new oil pan gasket that acted as a baffle, and a dipstick that was shorter so that the 'full' mark meant more oil was in the motor. Valve springs / valves have always been an issue with dropped valves being common. It's a great, great, great bike when it's working right.

Daytonas don't like high revs. They don't make the most power up there, they respond well to being short shifted. They also have a bit of a tendency to burn oil, some worse than others, and all do it at high revs. That plus a dipstick design that is really terrible, unclear dipstick markings, and a couple of ohter minor things, and they have a tendency to pop because it's easy to neglect them. I've had 2 and put around 30-40k on those 2 and never blew anything up. I have a buddy with an 06 racebike that did 5 years of racing, no issues - he just rebuilt the engine cause it was getting a bit tired. Basically, they're not as bulletproof as a gixxer so they tend to pop because people don't monitor the oil, etc.

I think my original motor went because the stock CCT failed and the cam chain was worn, which allowed the cam chain to rub the side of the case and ended up shaving a bunch of aluminum into the oil. We all know how it ended after that.
