The Jojo ape episode has a scene where the 11-yo girl is showering seductively for the camera lens. Just because the ape is portrayed as a massive creepo doesn't mean that it still isn't played up for audience titillation. It's the equivalent of having someone weakly mutter 'oh noooo this is so bad we shouldn't be showing this oh noooooo whooopsie please don't think we like this oh noooooo' while continuing to slowly pan up the silhouetted body of a child in the shower. They're able to use the pervy ape as an excuse to be pervy and then try to laugh it off. Jojo is fun, but its not perfect. Defending stupid crap like that instead of just admitting it's not really kosher is why people think anime fans are out-of-touch weirdos - they'll fight to the death to defend the 'honor' of a show.

And now I've got two new shows to watch, thanks. Two because apparently Mononoke is a spinoff of a show called Ayakashi, and if the spinof is that pretty then I have to watch the source.Kit Walker posted:Mononoke. The show, not Princess Mononoke.

The Repo Man posted:BubbleGun Crisis (old and new versions) As rad as these are, they do sort of have sexualized underage women in them. Riding Bean has that younger girl who is involved in a life of crime in unfortunate ways and Bubblegum Crisis has the Robot Vampire Lesbians (from the moon) which probably count as children? I don't know how the rules work for robots. Thankfully Bean is presented as a hero figure who's main motivation is "hey stop ruining the lives of children". Unfortunately Sonoda tends to have these types of things in his work despite everything else in them being awesome as gently caress. Gunsmith Cats has May which is kind of an edge case verging on the whole "900 year old demon" bullshit and one the later arcs just straight up has kids in a shower scene. But goddamn the dude can draw guns and cars really cool. Light Gun Man has a new favorite as of 23:59 on Nov 24, 2014 |

Ping Pong The Animation. The story is centered entirely around children. None of them are sexualized. It's also an incredibly good show, in a medium filled with horrible poo poo.

I don't recall any sexualized children in the recent Golgo 13 show but I still haven't caught up past the second season. I don't really remember any in the English volumes they put out a while back either.

anime heavily sexualizes female characters in general because japan doesn't have as strong a taboo on sex and pornography, and japan is also pretty sexist. they're selling titties to gross lecherous teenage boys and grown men. unfortunately with the lack of taboos on sex in general it turns out there's not much taboo on sex with children either. that doesn't mean japanese are pedos any more than americans are but it does mean pedoshit exists and is openly consumed in public. anyways i dont think anime has as much actual child porn as the gibbis crew insists. there's shitloads of porn but not that much child porn. if youre counting poo poo where the protag and the girl are both 16 youre grasping at straws IMO. yeah sure an artbook says yoko from gurren lagann is 15 or w/e but she has honkers the size of watermelons and is like three feet taller than the main character icantfindaname has a new favorite as of 13:21 on Dec 6, 2014 |

i basically agree with you but the thing is the creepy pedo stuff shows up in things that are otherwise fine and it's really hard to sell non-anime baby people on "this is really good but theres 10 year old girl rear end in it" like with the jojo anime adaptation. or like, pani poni dash was pretty funny but there is no way in hell you're ever going to hear me admit to having watched it outside of this post because it was creepy as all hell about 10 year old girl rear end. it's not so much that anime is all 10 year old girl rear end all the time, but it pops up often enough that you have to throw out a lot of "you need to ignore this extremely creepy poo poo because the rest of it is worth it" caveats to recommend anime to people and it makes me not want to ever talk about it i don't think it justifies an indictment of japanese society but from what i've heard of how the anime business model works, it probably justifies an indictment of that. correct me if im wrong because i regularly parrot this without knowing how accurate it is but i hear most studios add in the creepy pedo stuff because they would rather get that sweet uncensored bluray and plastic figure money from the devil they know (a minority of ultracreeps with lots of disposable income) than try to make something that has mass appeal but doesnt attract that all-important dipshit fucker demographic

i dunno im more negative on japan as a whole. it's complicated. i think the pornographic poo poo is a lot more mainstream than people think, like even in naruto and bleach and totally mainstream shonen there are female characters with gigantic tits for the enjoyment of the 15 year old readers. gently caress even in pokemon you have brock ogling nurses as a throwaway gag in a show for 10 year olds. people say they dont understand why anime makers dont make shows with mass appeal but this poo poo does have mass appeal, that's the point. it should be pointed out that most of this porn isnt actually child porn. it might be fetishy and creepy in other ways, but i dont think pedophilia is actually that common, it's just one of many creepy gross fetishes anime uses to attract lecherous weirdos, its not the only or the most prominous one. there's also slash fiction, incest, and rape, to name a few. maybe im not watching the right animes, im not gonna argue this one too hard. im looking at a list of bestselling animes on dvd and the top stuff is all harem garbage like monogatari, which has creepy pedophilic characters but only for like one of 15 girls in the harem, each of which is aimed at a different fetish. other characters in the harem are his sister, his sisters friends, his sisters friends mom, the tsundere classmate, the kuudere classmate, etc, etc im not really sure if this explanation makes anime any better to be honest, but i think my main point is its not otaku that are the problem here, it's japan itself. the fact that fujoshi and female yaoi fans are a thing tells me it's a deeper problem than just japan's pedophiles being a particularly lucrative market for figma sales. i don't even know if it is a problem really, i think it's bad and gross but it is a different culture and all that. anyways the personal standard ive come to for watching this poo poo is that i won't tolerate child porn/pedophilia, but other creepy pornographic poo poo i'll ignore, unless its particularly heinous. i wouldnt talk about that with normal people though, and i realize this puts me firmly in the internet weirdo category icantfindaname has a new favorite as of 15:13 on Dec 6, 2014 |
