How did he even get that job anyway. I don't remember anyone in the mid 90s saying "What an erudite and engaging footballer Townsend is, let's hope we hear more form him after he retires".

People like Phil Neville and Danny Murphy have pundit gigs nowadays so theres a clear market for terrible ex footballers to make a living

Jonathan Pearce is the worst personality in commentary. Thick, opinionated, blind and always lining up a Big Phrase. Matt Smith, the unobtrusive ITV anchor with the apologetic smile, has not had his contract renewed.

How is lawro so low? He's another loving moron ex Liverpool player that somehow gets 6 figures a year from the public purse to talk absolute poo poo and complain about the fact he has to watch football.

Lawro was a local HTV legend. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oHcWVG3yWtI That is to say he was a pundit on local TV when I was growing up and so I actually quite like the guy and his sense of humour.

I like Lawro because he's a miserable git and takes the piss out of games, which is a nice step up from the usual routine of reassuring American viewers that the game is worth watching, and trying to convince them that there are goals coming in the second half. His commentary is way better than him on Match of the Day, anyway. Especially when he just doesn't bother talking for 15 minutes.

Gordon Taylor has risked further controversy by appearing to compare the Ched Evans case with the Hillsborough tragedy. After the convicted rapist's move to Oldham collapsed, the Professional Footballers' Association chief executive was asked about Evans's insistence that he is innocent. "He wouldn't have been the first person to be found guilty, maintained their innocence and been proved right. We know what happened with Hillsborough," Taylor told BBC Sport. "It's now unravelling and very different to how it was portrayed at the time - indeed by the police at the time."
