tesilential posted:It says "does not work with macs." Any reason why dual link DVI won't work through my thunderbolt 2 ports with an adapter? Because neither they nor DisplayPort are capable of driving anything beyond DVI single link over them. You would have to get an active adapter to get it to work, and considering what they cost, you're much better off getting a display with native DisplayPort support.

Trip report so far: This is a good monitor. Haven't done much gaming on it yet but no lag I've seen so far (not that I've ever seen any with any other monitor). Nice design, USB 3 hub built in and tilt/swivel/height adjustable stand. Only downsides so far are that 1) the touch sensitive buttons take a bit of getting used to and 2) because it's so slim and my desk is so deep, I have to move it closer because the higher rez makes everything just a bit harder to read than I'd like at a distance. Out of the box colour settings are a bit excessive as well, I know you're proud of the panel contrast Dell but there's no need to make everyones eyes bleed by default.

Yeah, I'm also really quite pleased with it, but I don't really care for the touch sensitive buttons. I'd much rather have actual buttons. But I'll put up with it for the excellent base and stand. Unlike the LG, I can raise and lower the screen. How novel! For the color, I turned the brightness down to about 55 and changed the color to temp based at 6500k. After that, I calibrated it with my Spyder4, and found it hardly had to correct anything. Here's my kid playing his favorite hat simulator:

When are adaptive sync and free sync supposed to become widely available? Is it really worth it compared to the standard 60hz IPS models? I guess I'm debating how much I want to spend now vs. later on a monitor. I could just go big now for the Dell U3415W or wait for a similar sized free sync capable monitor if they come out soon enough. Are they even supposed to be similar sized? Also I'm pushing for free sync/adaptive sync because I'm actively trying to burn my apartment down with CrossfireX AMD R9 290's

No 1440p model is said to be in the works, but I imagine there will be one eventually.

Anyone else here rocking a Dell P2715Q? Not a whole lot of review out there for it yet but it was on sale on Dell's site for $525 so I took a gamble. Had it for about a week and am loving it. No dead or stuck pixels and the factory calibration was pretty good if a bit warm. Also the AG coating is much more subtle than on my old U2412M. Apparently people have some issues with the monitor not waking up properly when connected via Display Port but I haven't experienced any issues hooked up to a 2013 MBP. IPS 4K @ 60hz for $500-$600. What's not to love?

Could I have a recomendation for something to buy under $200 for general purpose and gaming? I honestly can't tell the difference between a $1,000 monitor and a $70 one, so super elite specs don't mean that much to me. I just want something that works well and little glare.

What GPU(s) are you guys running the dell U3415s? I have a gtx 970 and am wondering if that might be a bit of a push for ultra settings at 3440x1440. Wonder if I can score a cheap 970 to SLI after the revelation they're kind of gimpy.

ULMB and other blur reduction techs basically trade motion blur for a little bit of ghosting. On some monitors you can greatly reduce the amount of ghosting using the assorted blanking tricks like VT1350 or adjusting the strobe timing to get the crosstalk as far off the middle of the screen as possible. Other monitors will do something to similar effect automatically. However, since you're on a SWIFT ROG that's running at 1440p, I don't think you can actually use any of those higher Vertical Total settings or tricks. So I wouldn't be surprised if it ghosted pretty hard. Going to OD mode is probably just AMA Overdrive only, which doesn't get you any of the new blur reduction tech. There will be less ghosting but also a lot more blur. Of course if you're using GSync then you aren't going to be using ULMB anyway. This display is a hundred bucks cheaper than the commonly-recommended Dell U2412M. The latter is not really out of my price range, but I'm wondeing if it is worth the extra money. I play a lot of Dota, but that's about it as far as gaming goes. (MGSV soon.) Other than that, just typical office-style use. I just like a clear, bright picture.

Probably not no. I've got a 970 and running at 1080p I'm only averaging around 60-90 FPS in Farcry 4 on High. With that setup you'll be pushing 2.5x the number of pixels with a less powerful video card, you'll be lucky to even be hitting 60fps on High settings. And that's just a game that's out today, who knows what you'll need ~2 years from now. Edit: Saw you edited from 960->970, you'll probably be OKAY for a while on a 970. That's really the card you should be getting now regardless.

I currently use a Dell U2412 and am looking for a upgraded size/resolution. The price for the Dell U3415W is pretty comparable to the Dell 30" monitors. If my video card can cut it out for awhile, it gives me a good excuse to upgrade it again at the end of the year.

I'm in the market for a new monitor because mines starting to break down. Right now I have a Dell 2209WA - 22" - 1680x1050 - 16:10 and a GeForce GTX 760. I think I want to go for a 24" this time with a 1920×1200 resolution (16:10). I'm not sure if my GTX 760 can handle games at 1920x1200 or not, looking for some insight on that. The most important thing for me with the new monitor would be low response time. After that I just want whatever I get to be as good or better than my 2209WA (specs: http://www.engadget.com/products/dell/ultrasharp/2209wa/specs/) I definitely need a matte/anti-glare screen too.

It seems to be the same panel as the LG. If that's the case, just go check for backlight bleeding. if there is none, then you should be happy with a pretty awesome monitor. I have the LG. The Dell is probably the new hotness since it has a curved view LCD.

With as many pixels as the 21:9 screens are gonna have it might be worth it to wait until one has some sort of variable refresh such as g-sync built in.

Also I've played hundreds of hours of counterstrike and tried playing on a crt and a 6ms ips back to back and there wasn't a noticeable enough difference to justify it unless it's like your day job.
