There's definitely enough room in the manga to go for another season. Probably ending just before the new school year starts (where a handful of new characters show up) or with the New Year's match since that would make the most dramatic ending.

This chapter was a real tearjerker because I was caught up emotionally with Taichi and Chihaya leaving their team. Don't leave your team alone! I didn't expect Arata to make the initiative to get both of them out of the rut.

I just finished watching both seasons and it was so good. I wish there was more  The characters were really good and I actually found myself getting emotionally invested, embarrassingly enough, in goddamn teenage love triangle. Sure puts Twilight to shame. For me at least, Chihayafuru is not the kind of story that becomes less enjoyable when you already know what's going to happen. I actually liked the anime more the second time I watched it.
