Animal justice party picked up the last seat here in NSW over the no land tax party. I think this election was a win despite the reality of the situation. 3 green lower house seats, 5 upper house and an animal justice party senator. Next election could pick up another 2 lower house seats if things keep progressing. The AJP seem to have a pretty decent policy list, hopefully it brings a little more awareness to the hosed up things we do to animals in this country.

Jesus christ, teaching women how to deal with 'risky situations'. I assume it involves teaching MMA moves and how to take down attackers Bourne Identity style because you wouldn't be blaming women for walking on the street right?

Pickled Tink posted:Why would anyone care what happens to animals when they don't even care about other people? We still grind male chicks up alive and factory farm pigs in horrible conditions. Plenty of people who fight for the right things still eat bacon and egg rolls made by exploited underpaid workers and with ingredients sourced from farms that treat the animals like poo poo.

hooman posted:Huh, for some reason I thought it was a requirement of whatever certification board or something that students had to be taught by someone with a higher qualification than their own but seems I am wrong. This is actually technically correct under TEQSA, all programs have to be taught by someone one full qualification level higher. It is of course, idiocy, since that means nobody can teach PhD level classes, since there is nothing in our system above a PhD, and you'd have to go to Europe and get one of those fancy doctor of science qualifications. So you're not entirely incorrect, but in practice, almost every Faculty at every university will do it at some point. I got my start in lecturing when I was still in the final year of my PhD. Requiring a PhD to give lectures is also an absurdity because unless you award honourary doctorates at the drop of a hat (heh), you could never have subjects taught by industry experts etc.

The 'educating women' thing is really hosed up and teaching about the nature of consent is important but does having someone tell (men) that they ruined their life not help? I'm not particularly well read on this but I'd have thought a notable amount of rapists were selfish and that appealing to that might be helpful? Any reading materials on this subject would be greatly appreciated.

CrazyTolradi posted:So you're a member of PETA then? Lol no. I don't like a lot of the poo poo that PETA does or the off putting way they go about it. I wouldn't ever lecture people on not eating meat and animal products but all I'm saying is it would be nice if people thought a little about where it's from and how the animals were treated. People should think about reducing the amount of meat they eat, not only for the animals but also the massive enviromental impact and waste generated by the meat industry. It's not hard to move to eating meat once a week and it would be for the benefit of everyone. gently caress I eat meat maybe once a month but I don't think it's a big ask for people to just think a little about what they are consuming.

This is the stupidest poo poo I've read in Fairfax for some time: http://www.theage.com.au/business/comment-and-analysis/its-time-to-merge-australia-and-new-zealand-20150417-1mmdft.html It actually pisses me off that there are thousands and thousands of young, talented writers in Australia struggling to be noticed, and meanwhile there's these old fat white fucks who've been grandfathered and ringfenced as print media collapses around them, and still get a hefty paycheck to piss out brainfarts they came up with in two minutes while sitting on the can and twiddling their thumbs. I mean look at this poo poo: quote:Back in 1788 the Governor of New South Wales claimed New Zealand as part of his state. And then around the time of our Federation, New Zealand was invited to join the Commonwealth and provisions were made in the constitution. As far as I know, they are still there. "As far as I know." Not gonna loving take 5 minutes to google it and check. gently caress it, file it the editor by 10.30 and let's hit the golf course. Let one of the 27-year-olds on their third unpaid internship since university tidy it up.

I mean, it'd be fine if he refined his panels down to 4-5 and actually showed improvement in his artstyle over the years, perhaps shade things. None of that poo poo has happened though. It's like watching a 5 year old child draw on a wall in crayon after catching Question Time while ABC Kids is on Intermission.
