NotWearingPants posted:Now that austerity has been proven to not ever work for around 35 years now, how much longer are people that insist on it going to be taken seriously? Another 35 years or so? Son of Rodney posted:Id like to be more informed that I am, but the way I understood it the EU is pretty grumpy because while everyone agrees that the austerity measures for greece are generally poo poo, there are reforms that they basically have to do in order to be long term viable, like cutting ridiculous spendings and actually paying their taxes, but greece is mostly "hm, no" and this causes the EU to not implementing solutions that are actually viable, since they believe that it still wont make a difference. Is this correct? Am I dumb as gently caress? At this point though, "reforms" are not going to help Greece did their way out of the hole. It's not like the citizens of greece are super-wealthy and that better tax collection would solve everything. They have 25% unemployment. The greek government needs to spend more, not less. They need a way to put demand back into their economy, or the future will continue to look much like the present.

How the hell do you agree with the moron saying greece is like if D&D ran a country then spout some bullshit about how none of them pay taxes when D&D is all about the rich people paying taxes jesus christ you're dumb Greece may have some problems with people not paying tax, but that's the rich by and large like it is in every goddamn country including america

And the other... well, they just don't pay.

Greece is like DnD running a country in the sense that they would want lots of social programs (which can be good), however not enough people would contribute, everyone would be blaming everyone else for not contributing enough, or would realize that some people are not contributing enough and then they themselves would refuse to contribute, and then the country would run out of money

“In Greece more than two-thirds of the population – private- and public-sector employees – pay tax in the normal way, because it is deducted at source,” Theoharis explains. “The problem is that it’s still too easy for contractors, people in the professions and some big companies not to declare all or part of their earnings.” Lol, keep carrying water for the banks that started this poo poo in the first place

I just looked into it some more since I was mistaken in how much of it was shipping, which you can't really tax too much (shipping was just 1% or 1/6 of that missing 6%). The articles I'm reading makes it seem like it's mostly lawyers, doctors, some big corps, etc. and I am fine with taxing them as any bleeding heart would also sorry for the lovely reply, EXTREME INSERTION posted:Greece is like DnD running a country in the sense that they would want lots of social programs (which can be good), however not enough people would contribute, everyone would be blaming everyone else for not contributing enough, or would realize that some people are not contributing enough and then they themselves would refuse to contribute, and then the country would run out of money rly makes you think

EXTREME INSERTION posted:Hmm, maybe everyone should just report that they have no income. That way, nobody has to pay taxes Well you can't blame the Greeks for needing to borrow all of that money. I mean, when you're country is right in the Mediterranean, one of the greatest trading and tourist zones in the world, you have to be expected to be poor. And since all of Western Culture is owed to the Greeks whom lives over 3000 years ago, clearly they need that free cash. I mean how else are they going to maintain all of those historical sites that are currently in ruins and not being cared for at all.

Fact is Greece was only lent the money on the premise that no Euro nation would be allowed to default, a notion that should have been stomped on really early instead of allowing to go on and on.
