It is, but I always thought of a smirk as more of a half smile, or at least half smiles like that always look disdainful to me, so I figured he was just smiling for the picture. I mean he's still a rear end in a top hat but I'd assume that without the nerve damage his expression would be more like the picture Rickycat made.

So this story of a Michigan State Rep who made up a gay scandal about himself as preemptive damage control for an actual (straight) affair he was having. http://www.rightwingwatch.org/content/anti-gay-lawmakers-caught-affair-bizarre-cover quote:Fearing that news of the affair would come out, Courser demanded that an aide send out a mass email to state Republicans claiming that Courser, had "male on male paid sex behind a prominent Lansing night club," describing him as a "bi-sexual porn addicted sex deviant" and a "Godless Addicted Monster." Courser, explained to the aide, who refused to send the email, that it was part of a "controlled burn" strategy.

Eh, more like let's tell everyone the neighborhood blew up, and once the smoke clears and they see it was the trash bin on fire they'll actually be relieved. A desperate strategy to be sure, but not entirely illogical.

I was thinking of that myself, but I couldn't remember the details. I'm wondering if that's where he got the idea from. But of course in the joke the fake story and the real story both came in the same letter. "Everything is terrible! No, just kidding, it's only a few things that are terrible." It doesn't work if the fake story comes from someone else. All Courser would have accomplished was to have two scandals, one self-admitted and one rumored. And a lot of people would have assumed the truth was the other way around - that the gay prostitute story was real, and the adultery story was a cover-up.

Looks like Paxton doesn't have to face the contempt hearing today. The amended death certificate has been issued and the hearing rescheduled for September 10th. Leigh and Robin Jorgeson are still fighting to have both their names on their baby's birth certificate.
