Yes. I will defend this LP with every breath I have... but I personally will never enjoy playing the game.

The LP brought out all of the good, without having to endure the less good; the truest sense of 'we play it so you don't have to'.

Funny, the LP inspired me to replay the game with my girlfriend (and it's been quite the resource, she somehow missed Hojo and all the character action in Costa Del Sol).

Still fun after all these years, but she can't stand navigating the pre-rendered maps.

Four years ago, I said I would do a detailed write up on how almost every single party member suffers from mental illness. I'll try to make good on that, but I lost my home last week and my Mother in Law died today, so I'm a little swamped. The short version is Cloud has Dissociative Identity Disorder, Barret has PTSD, Tifa is Codependant, Red XIII shows signs of Oppositional Defiant Disorder, Yuffie is a Kleptomaniac, Cait Sith(understandably) displays Derealization Disorder traits, Cid pretty clearly has Antisocial Personality Disorder and Intermittent Explosive Disorder, and Vincent is just Depressed (unless you count his spooky vampire sleep as Hypersomnia and Nightmare Disorder). Aeris is perfectly well adjusted. :v:

This LP was amazing, thanks for giving us all something to enjoy, Elentor.

Great LP, Elentor. I think it's because of this I'm tentatively excited for the remake. I really liked the unique updates that no one really does. "Hurf here's stuff" is generally accepted as the go to, and while that's great, I like seeing creativity thrown in for it's own sake. drat good, sir. drat. Good. That said,

whens the next update guys i think he gave up on this game guys there hasn't been an update in like a week and stuff
(I'm kidding obviously plz don't probate me... or probe me. Well.. depends on who does the probing I guess)

Now come on, the FFVII fandom is a bit kooky but I've never met a single person ever who was a fan of Hojo as a person. We love 'em because he's batshit insane and evil but that's all.

In fact, back in the day, most people I talked about FFVII with figured Vinny was Sephiroth's real father.

poo poo, man, there's someone out there who thinks she basically -is- Hojo (otaku-kin, yeah.) Mind you, she also somehow thinks she's Dagger and Steiner both, so this person is obviously a complete nutjob.

No, my mistake, she thought she was Cloud, too. I got the two whackjobs mixed up, it was the other nutbag I was thinking of. Either way they're both utterly insane and so far gone into La-la land that they've long since become Mayors of the place.

I'd just like to join the conga line of poster who want to thank Elentor for showing that FF VII is indeed a great game and it's not nostalgia speaking to us. It's just that the awful extended universe stories that has tarnished the memory for a lot of us.

Anyway, thanks Elentor for a great LP with a lot of fun stuff inbetween the updates. I hope you'll take on another LP in the future with as much gusto as you did with this one.

So, I got an FFVII related question. I didn't see it mentioned in the appropriate update and I don't feel like searching the thread.

The Wall Market segment, the guy who asks you to check the vending machine, wasn't that some censorship? He specifically makes it sound like"Guy Talk" or that he's embarrassed by Aerith hearing what he wants Cloud to get.

I've heard in Japan they have - or had - vending machines that sell condoms as well as vending machines that sell...well, female underwear.

Does anyone know if this is what it originally was? I just don't see why "protein set" or whatever would make him nervous around Aerith.

They do, but they're not like on the side of the street or anything. They're all in stores that specialize in more independent or skeezier goods. My bro and I saw one and it was pretty fuckin' bad, I wanted to get a picture of it but it was in one of the many smaller stores where they'll kick you out for taking photos. It wasn't too surprising we found it there, though, they were selling shirts that said N.E.E.T. HOME SECURITY: 24 HOURS ON

in Japanese he says it's a drink (set) for refreshing your fighting spirit, or words to that effect, so yeah, along those lines, though probably more of a 'keep you going all night' thing.

You can actually find them unattended out in the countryside by the side of the road, typically grouped together in corrugated metal sheds. They'll sell porno mags/DVDs, sex toys, women's underwear (not used, at least at any of the machines I ever came across), etc. We called them porn shacks, and they're every bit as creepy as that description made them sound. There was one in my prefecture called "Super Secret Zone" or something like that, sounded like a hidden level in a Mario game or something.

Here's a photo from one, kinda NSFW for cartoon nudity (I mosaic'd out my friend and I's faces, but left the NFSW stuff alone.)

It's pretty common to have a reflective front like that on some of the machines, with a light that comes on once a sensor in the shack detects movement within.

I saw one of those for sale at a Donkihote (a Japanese chain retailer that's basically a cross between Walmart and Spencer's Gifts), was like $20 for a very small bottle and supposedly made with bull penis/testicles.

I don't know if Midgar was built on the promised land, but if mako is actually the life stream, concentrating it in 87 reactors (I'm assuming that they're drawing it from a massive area around Midgar) and then meteor popping them means there would be a massive amount in the ruins of Midgar.

Is... is concentrated life stream dangerous to humans? Because wouldn't that poo poo pool under the plate, where all the survivors are?

Lifestream is not Mako, it's turned INTO Mako. (Condensed, I think? Game's kinda vague on the specifics.)

I always got the impression the lifestream was some spectral energy (more like a gas?) but Mako was a liquid.
