Best part is is that it's only 22 minutes long and if you aren't a poor you can watch it without ads.

Good show.

Rick and morty is good and it doesn't appear to have designs that disappear up its own rear end, so by season 3 it will probably still be picking up viewers and not relying on 21 minutes of callback reliant jokes that just comes off as smug nonsense

The Venture Bros cast got way too bloated for its own good because they decided every one-note joke of a side character needed to be tied into this grand thematic jerk-off adventure when all anybody really cared about was the characters that were on the show from the get-go.

Yeah I liked the show when it felt like a bizarre combination of johnny quest and "how would johnny quest work out in the real world", but I stopped watching it for a while and watched like a season 3 episode and I didn't know what the gently caress was going on or who all these stupid new characters were and it just wasn't the same man

There is no grand thematic jerk-off adventure, it's just character studies of nerd archetypes in a world where all that dumb cartoon poo poo is "real" except every character fails and fucks up about as consistently as real people do which is a lot.

This is legit. The creators are so piss-scared of moving any arcs forward or playing to expectation that they end up expanding the world horizontally 95% of the time.

Everyone who complains about the 3rd season of Venture Bros. is seriously mad that the creators threw in "There's an extra joke here if you paid attention earlier". Some of the complaints read like a thesis on the evils of an attention span that lasts over 11 seconds

Given how half of this and any given R&M circlejerk is about how Rick & Morty is soooooo emotionally affecting with characters like Mr. Poopydoop and such, it might help to realize that the Venture Bros. veers off from parody comedy into a dark character comedy that uses Gen-X Nerd Arcana as a backdrop and an excuse to have the characters do outlandish things. You're on SomethingAwful in tyool 2015 so I'm guessing most of the Nerd Arcana will be recognizable, which is good as it helps you know what archetypes the show is using as well as how the show is jumping off of that archetype to create a more unique character (e.g: Henchman 24, the audience stand-in and mega nerd ends up going through a crisis of conscience after his friend dies and makes huge leaps forward in competence only to get discouraged and find a new normal back in his old dead-end job which is utterly heartbreaking but also more honest than any other show would treat his character).

A lot of Adult Swim shows have done this dance before, including Morel Orel and Metalocalypse.

Too Many Cooks is a good micro-example of this philosophy:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QrGrOK8oZG8

Start as one-note joke that uses Gen-X pop culture staples as reference points,. Then take that joke to the most extreme it can possibly go. Then take it a bit further. Then veer off into other genre territory mostly for the hell of it. Then get experimental with form. Then punish/reward the audience who stuck it out with some form of genuine lunacy before looping back around to tie everything back in nominally with the original premise.

I'm not mad just insulted at the idea a poo poo show for retards like venture brothers has a single loving thing to do with Rick and morty, which you think is some obvious fact because you are a brain damaged idiot with a boner for the self referential stick up its own rear end machine known as the venture bros

Venture bros superfans are worse than stephen universe fans. No, your Hannah Barbara parody show isn't the precursor to R&M or whatever and it's impressive how delusional youd have to be to sincerely believe that.
