That rules. Fury Road is one of my all time favourite movies - it was utterly superb. Glad to see Kojima is taking neat stuff from good movies.

I've always been curious if he's been influenced by the 'Vengeance Trilogy' by Park Chan-Wook. It'd make sense for the thematic element of Phantom Pain being 'Revenge'

I agree with you completely but the weird thing is that the game is really enjoyable and fun despite all of those flaws. Personally I quite like the slow pacing of the plot, and the fact there doesn't seem to be one at times, but yeah I hope eventually poo poo starts ramping up. Also I'm curious about one thing, where exactly did you fight Quiet? I was impressed at how that battle happened at 'random' and was wondering if it can take place at different locations on the map
I'm exactly with you on this as well. My only issue so far is that I can already tell exactly where I'm going to get bored with this; the repetition, UI issues and probably grinding for resources and fulton victims. On the other hand...so far the (very minimal) grinding is rewarding me with new things to the point where every time I unlock something new in R&D I immediately think back to a mission where it would be extremely useful/fun to use when gunning for an S-Rank. Or just fun to use in general to gently caress around with.

One thing you can listen to (or read subtitles) while waiting for TPP is the audio drama which for some reason appeared only in the Japanese version of GZ. It details the first meeting between BB and Miller:

I'll throw in some thoughts, apologies if they're not particuarly coherent.

. A lot of locations are used repeatedly for various missions and it can be a bit jarring. Having said that, since the mission setups and guard posts vary you can approach each mission differently which adds a bit of flavour. On top of that you can destroy communication computers and anti-radar antennas, and whilst they get rebuilt in time they often won't be there when replaying another mission in the same area. Normally I play stealthy, but when revisiting a location for a side mission I remembered I had destroyed all their poo poo previously, so I went in with the battle dress, an assault rifle and RPGs, wreaked havoc and the enemies were absolutely helpless as they couldn't properly communicate with each other or call back up. I finished that side mission in 2 minutes.

. To add to that, you aren't ranked on side missions. It's quite a nice reprieve, as you don't feel like you'll be at a big disadvantage if you go all out war for them. Having said that though, they often contain specialist soldiers who would make good use on Mother base so it's often wise to be sneaky.

. Motherbase is really loving boring and it's annoying to get around. That aside, building it up is pretty fun and every time a different department levels up you get the giddy feeling of knowing you may be about to unlock something awesome.. Being able to dispatch a team to do your dirty work and bring back GMP and resources is nice, it takes out a lot of the personal grunt work but you nevertheless feel like you have a hand to play in it. As your combat team members develop their skills on the field they get rewarded with better titles, it feels like developing your own little Foxhound.

. Snake doesn't speak a great deal, even in the tapes, but I like it a lot. It adds an air of mystery to him and you can't help but feel his head is in a dark place. Ocelot and Miller have some nice dialogue, and are especially pleasant to listen to on the tapes. SkullFace, however, seems a bit too corny in terms of both voice and dialogue.

. Most of the context to what is happening in the story and the character development happens in the tapes. If you're not really familiar with the game I think it's pretty easy to overlook them and I can't help but feel a lot of people will unintentionally miss out on the meat of the story.

. I hope this isn't considered a spoiler, but the first tape you get and the first song you hear is "The Man Who Sold the World". When you take into account what the song is about and what is happening to Big Boss (waking up from a coma after 9 years with missing limbs, eventual slide into pure villainy?), It's a really great pairing.

If you have any questions feel free to ask.

US PS4 CE (ESRB) vs Dutch PS4 CE (PEGI), EU one has a yellow strap around the box and a more elaborate method of opening, along with how the things inside are stored and accessed, enough room inside for GZ and TPP

It's just really weird that it does it at all with digital pre-orders that can't be played; it's supposed to be for allowing immediate play (the small 4~5 GB part) while the bigger chunk installs in the background off the disc or downloads from the servers.

All done here, didn't take as long as I thought, but I switched to wired after rearranging all my crap so the PS4 could sit on my desk. 31 hours to go...

That's fair.

I was actually listening to codec conversations from MGS1 and the weird speech pattern Jennifer Hale uses for Naomi Hunter is kind of goofy. It's like she was making an impression of an incredibly condescending mad scientist. I guess that's the direction they gave her and she ran with it.

Oh, it could also be some kind of brilliant South African accent given Hunter's background, but I don't quite think so.

You have your jeep but if you run a dude over its instant game over and ocelot berates you. There's just not a great deal to see so driving around is just a bit of a chore. The animal conservation area is cool but its completely separated and you have to fly over there.

Sorry, to be more clear, I feel the cassette tapes are just easy to overlook in the idroid menu. The game never really tells you to pay much attention to them and I think a lot of people, who don't necessarily realise their importance will just skip past them.

But with story related tapes, you get them automatically as the game progresses. You steal music tapes from enemy cassette players. You can also find random ones lying around that have random poo poo on them.

It looks like there are trials type things there and I'm guessing some part of the game has to take place there (that's just a guess but I'm just jumping to the conclusion that it get s attacked or something). Does anyone know if Mother base ties into the FOB's or is that a totally separate thing?

Don't get me started on the target practice. I tried one and it started on the top of a building. I didn't realise I could fly up there so I decided to walk my way there but it was like navigating a labyrinth. The actual target practice consisted of shooting up to 36 targets, with the next target appearing after the previous one. The catch is the targets tend to be hidden in obscure places. It's a cool idea but gently caress was it infuriating running around looking for targets in random places when the place feels like it's designed by a blind man.
