Initially the characters didn't represent them, or something like that.

I think this is right around when they just became normalish dudes and not internet "nerd culture" poster boys. Funny how becoming more than moderately successful and raising kids will do that

the fallout from this was kinda funny. iirc whoever owned the trademark to strawberry shortcake told them to take the comic down, and they were all NO WAY YOU CAN'T TELL US WHAT TO DO, WE'LL FIGHT THIS TO THE BITTER END and then they got a lawyer and he told them yes you actually do have to take it down

Penny-Arcade was pretty decent from like 2003-10 but then they split their attention into a hundred side projects and fake tv shows and conventions and now maybe 1 out of 20 strips are good.Sleeveless posted:These are the same guys who flipped their poo poo about people drawing porn of their characters, up to and including removing characters from the comic forever because porn got drawn of them.

I definitely recall something along those lines, but no way in hell I am scouring their news archives for it. Must have been way back when one of them still posted here.

They really were ahead of their time!

I remember back around 1999-2000 a whole bunch of people on their forums called one of their wives fat and it got shut down for a while.

ha ha, that's actually funny Not sure why anyone would get heated over a gamer webcomic, tbh, when you can just go outside and forget about it Also, why are people concerned about how fat their wives might be? What's that to anyone?

Ah, Penny Arcade, people liked you back when gaming webcomics were a novelty and you were the only one that wasn't A) lovely or B) Had a scumbag author penning it. Now, they get in the gaming news when they said or did something that pissed the overly-sensitive off.
