Tina interacting with an imaginary horse voiced by Paul Rudd is an adequate substitute, though.

Chips are a good substitute. Bob should have just bought some really big bags of chips.

But Bob wouldn't buy prepackaged chips, he's the kind of person who would just chop up the potatoes himself to make his own chips, then have to deep fry them anyways.

Especially since the fryer was going to be down. It's not the fries, it's that a burger lunch includes entree and side. This is a resturaunt, come on Bob.

Also, Bob should have Onion rings.

I don't think this is intentional, but in the background of Tina's room when she's writing in her diary one of her horse figurines has what appears to be a naked cowboy riding it. The only clothing it has is a hat.

I know right? Chips are a simple and cost effective solution to his problem! But like other people (and the show itself) have pointed out Bob is a pretty stubborn guy and if he can't do it perfectly he'd rather not do it at all.

the recipe book includes a recipe for onion rings that are insanely good. they've got rosemary in the batter, and the burger is topped with the onion rings and is stuffed with marjoram and apples. Its been one of my favorites so far.

This last episode is what makes Bobs Burgers great. Bob reluctantly giving in to the campn. Tina ridiculously riding an imaginary horse for her exhibition...and everyone buying into it 100% after a few seconds.

Yea, I think just serving Kettle Chips with the burgers as a temporary solution would not have worked with Bob, as he'd need to make artisan home made chips.

I just want to make sure this isn't just in my head, but Bob is a really good chef, and makes really good burgers, it's just he's kind of stubborn and self sabotaging because he wants everything to be because of him, nothing else?

I don't know about that last part. Bob has a lot of pride in serving really good diner food because his own dad coasted in his restaurant, and Bob seems to define himself against that in a lot of ways, and it drives his apparent talent and creativity (like every time anyone actually tastes his food they remark about how good it is). Wagstaff isn't the sort of town that can support Bob's gourmet aspirations, but he tries his hardest anyway. Just giving up and serving chips would be against Bob's entire reason for running a restaurant, which is a lot more personal than simply earning a paycheck.

It would actually be really interesting to see Bob work at a largescale Michelin rated restaurant in an episode, maybe to make rent or something, and suddenly have his food appreciated, but not have the autonomy he has with his own shop.

Pretty much. I mean part of his lack of success is caused by bad luck, but a lot of Bob's failures in life are his own fault. He's a great chef because he's extremely proud of his work and he refuses to compromise his values, and he's a terrible business man because he's extremely proud of his work and he refuses to compromise his values. His greatest strength is also his greatest weakness.

this episode felt kinda mean to me. Gene actually did put on a great Thomas Edison musical, Louise has had plenty of victories, why not let Tina actually have a good horse experience? The horse trainer gives her a lovely horse so she retreats back into her imagination forever is just kinda hosed up

Yeah but having the horse suddenly respond to her would have been cliché. I guess you could look at it like, she didn't let one bad experience ruin horses for her.
