So starting with this update, try to not post any spoilers or go on weird tangents, because it will get you probated. This is Dark Souls, a series that's all about improving your skills to overcome challenges. People are pointing out things that he's doing poorly (like relying on the shield too much) and ways that he can improve (be less timid and more aggressive). People want to see him improve, because that's the essence of Dark Souls. At the very worst, people are heckling him in the same way that the commentators do. And last I checked, this forum is called "Let's Play" and not "Watch Me Play and Don't Criticize Me". And creepy, really? Come on dude, it's like that word has no meaning anymore.

Right now you just sound like you want to run this like its your own LP, just let the man play and enjoy the show.

If you compare Grey Hunter's LP threads for War in the Pacific, two of the most intimidating LPs on the subforum (because they're updated in real time to track the progress of WW2), you'll often find people poking the man for his occasional dodgy tactical decisions. But even then, the criticism isn't "OP sux, burn down the thread" but instead "oh you ". Only once did someone get probated for threadshitting after needling GH, and it turned out that the poster was not threadshitting but making a historical in-joke.

The 'creepy' part of my post was the least core part of the message I was trying to get across, which is "don't post like a stereotypical Dark Souls weirdo because that's why Geop keeps closing the thread". To then write an aggressively worded paragraph about why the Geop needs to get good and shouldn't get final say over what does and doesn't get discussed in his thread strikes me as a little tone deaf.

It'll be all the more entertaining if Geop goes through the game using [insert non-recommended tactic here]. It's not like he's been struggling for help or been really frustrated since the very early videos. I'm at the end of my first playthrough of SotFS, and my lovely character is still turtling with a shield. I'm having fun regardless, and I hope Geop will as well.

I beat SotFS with what I tried to make a clone of my DS Dex/Faith. Unfortunately the offensive miracles are kinda weak for the number of times you get to use them, so I ended up just smacking poo poo in the face with some curved ultra great sword with a name I can't remember. I never even knew about the whole agility thing so that was frustrating, to put it lightly.

Genocyber posted:That kind of defeats the purpose of having a thread in which to comment in. Instead of constantly discussing and criticizing the way Geop is playing the game, talk about the game and things that you're noticing that you never have before because of the way that Geop is playing, or ways that Geop's approach made the game seem different (not necessarily worse or better) than when you played it, or talk about neat things that the game does that Geop has seen but might not have noticed, or cool enemy designs/AI quirks, or how you really love an item that Geop picked up, or talk about neat lore stuff that he may have missed since that's not really the focus of this LP. There are many ways to have a discussion and to comment on things without constantly telling Geop how he's doing things wrong.

The only bad thing about a Geop LP is that before you know it the episode is already over. It's like a roller coaster in that way. You wait to ride it, and you have a great time once you're on but then the the ride's over before you know it and you gotta back in line. goonies are good enough

I believe the formula on the Ring of Binding is somewhat more complicated than just "halves health reduction", but regardless it does approximately what the description suggests. In the original game it was instead found over by the cathedral, though to be fair there wasn't a drake in the way.

This area is probably my least favorite of the early areas. Will say this, though, Goonther doesn't necessarily need faith this go around. With Life Gems and some other healing methods more available, miracles aren't altogether as useful as they were in the last game.

I'm pretty sure it does half the % of max HP that you lose each time you die (like from 10% to 5%). It also locks your minimum maximum HP to 75% of your total, as opposed to 50% which is the default. That's loving great. Also the thread is open again, praise the sun. Now will you fuckers please stop making Geop lock it. Youtube comments are no place for discussion. That "To a place where I could gull the- UH I MEAN" line always struck me as kind of dumb. I guess it was an attempt at humour but it just felt like iffy writing to me. I don't remember the Ring of Binding in the base game at all, but it is useful enough considering enemies do a lot of damage even with full health. Though it has been pointed out earlier in the thread that the game drops Human Effigies like candy, and having played some SOTFS it does indeed seem to be that way. But it's a decent option if you wanna be stingy with them and don't have anything in particular you want in every single ring slot. Something else in the base game I recall is that for some inexplicable reason, that specific area had a lot of bloodstains even before the update. I can understand it in SOTFS since they substituted in some enemies to the area that you don't usually see until MUCH later (i.e. the Syan knight and Basalisk), but in the base game it was just more of the same old knights you fought up on the surface. It always struck me as really weird. Like "What the hell is wrong with all of you people? This is the exact same stuff you dealt with before". But it is something that is an interesting change, at least. Likewise, that basilisk with the statue behind it was also originally an Old Knight. Also, hitbox watch; 14:05 - Thrust hit you even though it looked like you had rolled out of range BenRGamer posted:This area is probably my least favorite of the early areas. That's what I thought when I was fighting through the area (It looks cool and I love the actual aesthetic, but its encounter design is really poor) until I got through to the next area. I just kinda stopped my playthrough of SOTFS for the time being out of exasperation. But for now, Pirate town has its own set of frustrations as well. Some cool changes we have yet to see in the LP, admittedly, but this area was already pretty bad in the base game. Edit: Removed some allusions to stuff for fear of displeasing the spoiler gods. The fact that you've used Capras for the death sum is wonderful. MGlBlaze fucked around with this message at 18:47 on Jul 2, 2016 |
