You're right and I think harping on the "Mission Accomplished" thing is completely valid since everyone with any sense said invading Iraq would lead to a 30 year quagmire that cost Trillions, while Bush and Co. insisted it would be over in a month and cost nothing.

The banner was a thinly veiled attempt to persuade the public that, when they said it would be over quickly and cost nothing, they meant some imaginary goal that whatever that speech was marked the end of.

Even in the event that the banner was in fact only the aircraft carrier's, all Bush had to say was something like 'For our brave sailors on this carrier, the mission is over, and their efforts have been instrumental in our victory. The hard work of remaking Iraq is still to come, but major combat operations have ended.' and it would have been horribly optimistic, but it wouldn't have been a hilarious own goal. They were definitely trying to be deceptive.

Oh, by the way, Great America PAC, which paid for that ad, has a pretty decent chance of being a Scam PAC. It's run by a former Paulite, the first $5 of every donation is promised to be sent to the Trump Campaign but no word on the rest of the money from a donation over $5,and Roger Stone says it's a scam.

What's actually kinda stranger(er?) about this is that this ad isn't even From Trump himself. It's from a superpac.

Trump is going to spend basically nothing on this election cycle and probably raise close to a billion dollars, then when he loses he will take that money for himself and people who donated are going to feel rightly scammed.

He is going to completely destroy any individual donation fundraising potential on the right forever.

It's been the American way for how long? I wish.

More than likely what'll happen is that Trump will blame it on the FEC or some other liberal bogeyman, and/or some other right-wing scam artist will come in and say that unlike Trump, HE won't be trying to scam you, so donate to him, and so the cycle continues anew.

edit: Tried a few more. Anything other than 1 or 2 gives you the message "Sorry, I did not understand you, please press 1 for yes and 2 for no" in a robotic voice.

Well the hopes would be that it's a federally mandated test, and free. Hell, I'm really not seeing the difficulty in all of this, unless you're saying that white people are wholly incapable of being racist, which then begs the question why do we let white people vote at all?

Then again, I think the average person (including myself) shouldn't be voting on poo poo. Experts in their field should be voting on poo poo in their field. The committee of science and space shouldn't be filled with republicans who think the earth is 6000 years old and climate control isn't real. It should have the best and brightest of the sciences voting on...science. The Department of Education should be filled with nothing but educators, not politicians.

TL;DR: people are stupid because they vote in stupid people who make laws and budgets on poo poo they know nothing about. It's a dumb system and disenfranchisement of the dumb is a-ok.

No, that's wrong. First, people are "stupid" because they're serviced by a media that doesn't have the slightest interest in informing them, and political parties that have no interest in presenting them with real choices. If you look at the actual polling statistics of what Americans believe, they're far more scared of climate change than their representatives, and they have far more reasonable views on the economy and government programs. Climate denial, drug prohibition, austerity and slashing of entitlements, extreme unrestricted firearm access, supply-side economics, foreign warmongering, and the current system of private healthcare: all of these policies are massively unpopular. Congress runs with an approval rating that hovers above the single digits. The current character of American politics is that of a massive discontinuity between what people want, and what their government is doing. Republican voters voted for Trump not just because they're angry at Democrats, but because they're deeply angry at Republicans as well, often in ways that make them sound like working class New Deal Democrats.

The problem isn't democracy, that's missing the point entirely. It's about the system that operates between the desired policies of people, and the desired policies of their representatives.

If you made voting mandatory and undid undemocratic policies like gerrymandering, felony restrictions, and ID laws it would have a significant positive change. Making voting an even more elite process would have the opposite effect you propose. The idea that the "stupids" are the reason our democracy doesn't work is the ideology of the people that are loving everything up right now. If you look at polling data on basic issues, this is pretty plain to see.
